• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

cleaning of the shield

I just installed an F4 windshield and use windex and a paper towel, works great, and these windshields really shed the
rain Great as advertised.
Just had to give a good word about one of our sponsors and great customer service and a wonderful product.
I highly recommend them if you want to change your windshield to a different shield.

Using Windex or ANY cleaner with ammonia in it will cause your shield to gradually cloud up. Don't do it unless you want a cloudy shield, or you plan on replacing it within a year or two.

:banghead: as said windex & paper towels are a NO NO!!! Microfiber cloth is best

Well that is what the people and the instructions from F4 recommend for cleaning it, so I have a 4 year
warranty if fails it can go back to them.

Sam's Club Eyeglass Cleaner

What are people using for cleaning of the shield?
I use eye glass cleaner as part of the final application to clean the windshield. Sam's club sells these as 2-pack and my experience on my RT-S (and formally my Goldwing) has been excellent.

I will use a very wet towel to soften the bug juice first or plain soap and water with micro-fiber cloth to do the actual cleaning.

Sam's Club used to sell a LARGE micro-fiber cloth that is excellent for the job. While they stopped selling these cloths, you can still find them on EBAY at a better price then when when the Club sold them for retail.

YES - YOU CAN RUIN YOUR WINDSHIELD VERY QUICKLY USING THE WRONG CLEANING MATERIALS. i.e. Windex, etc.

I would phone them to confirm using any ammonia based Windex. I would be extra careful.

I have spoken to them 3 times about this and have written instructions with the windshield.
So they should know there products as they have been selling them for quite some time and
I had one of there windshields on my Goldwing for 2 years and cleaned it the same way and it
looked great the day I traded it.

The F4 windshield is a whole different animal in replacement windshields. On their display, you'll see one with a windshield wiper going back and forth with a piece of steel wool under the blade. No scratching on the half of the windshield that has their coating, but plenty of scratching on the other non-coated half. Here is their recommended cleaning method from their website (NOT to be used on non-F4 windshields!):

[h=3]How do I clean my new F4 windshield?[/h]
F4 Customs windshields solve the daunting problem that is as old as the industry itself: “How do I clean my windshield without scratching or damaging it with the wrong rags and chemicals?” Easy – with F4 Customs windshields, simply use paper towels and standard glass cleaner. That’s right, the infamous X’s (Windex® and Rain-X®) are no longer off limits! To watch a video on care instructions, click here.
HOW TO CARE FOR AN F4 CUSTOMS WINDSHIELD
One of the great things about F4 Customs Windshields is low-maintenance cleaning. It can be done simply with a paper towel and F4 Customs Windshield Cleaner, or your favorite glass cleaner (Windex, etc.). Apply cleaner liberally to shield and wipe clean with paper towel; finish with a clean, dry paper towel. No waxy or oily cleaners; they will inhibit the performance of your F4 shield.

We advise the use of paper towels over microfiber towels to clean F4 Customs Windshields as Microfiber can retain sand or grit particles, even after laundering. These particles could cause damage to the shield; therefore, that threat is eliminated by the use of ordinary clean, fresh paper towels and the shield will retain the original perfectly-clear finish.
The F4 Customs windshield is incredibly scratch resistant; however, it is not scratch proof. Paper towels WILL NOT harm the F4 shield.
HOW NOT TO CARE FOR F4 CUSTOMS WINDSHIELDS
As part of the extensive manufacturing process, F4 Customs windshields are coated with a patented hardcoat. When the hardcoat is baked into the shield, the windshields are also sealed (helping to shed rain, bugs, etc.).
Wax-based or oily-type polishes or cleaners will inhibit the optical clarity and rain-shedding ability of F4 Customs Windshields. These cleaners will not cause harm to the shield, but may produce a light film on the windshield that could be hard to remove. This film allows microscopic particles to embed in the film, thereby creating surface tension that prevents proper rain shedding.
Please, no used microfiber cloths or laundered towels.
FOR BEST RESULTS, USE F4 CUSTOMS WINDSHIELD CLEANER AND PAPER TOWELS

Thanks for posting this, I was trying to figure out how to do it so people wouldn't think I would ruin a $395.00
windshield. It does everything they claim by the way and are great windshields and really great people to do
business with, I highly recommend them!
Thanks again,
Toby

wow. I'm gonna buy one.

I use a cleaner/wax made by Yamaha at about $8.00 I really like it as it seems to have a formula similar to the old Honda cleaner. I think it works as good or better. I also like Pledge. If I can find the unscented I use that but other wise good old Lemon Pledge. Learned about that 20 to 25 years ago from a Goldwing rally. Many Wingers still swear by that. I have also used Maguires #17 and #11.
