• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

CHRISTMAS 1971

WHERE WERE YOU? I spent that Christmas in VIET-NAM. Are there any other spyderlovers out there that happened to be there at that time, or any other time? MERRY CHRISTMAS, HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.

Didn't get there until May '72. August '71 to November '71 in the sandbox. Spent a few Christmas' on duty though. First Christmas away from home was '69. New Mexico, Holloman AFB.

On Christmas 1971 I had just returned from a tour in the Philippines, got married and reported to VA-115, an A-6 squadron in Whidbey Island, WA. We went to Vietnam in March 1972 and were still there at Christmas 1972. We got home in April 1973 and deployed to Japan on the U.S.S. Midway (CVA-41) that August.

I spent Christmas 1969 in boot camp in San Diego and Christmas 1970 in the Philippines. Christmas 1973-75 was in Hawaii, Christmas 1976-77 was back in the Philippines, Christmas 1978 was on leave in Seattle with my parents, and Christmas 1979 was in Key West. That pretty much covered the '70s for me...

I was just 1 year old on Christmas 1971. I was living in Sept-Iles, Quebec.

Does this make you guys feel old? :joke:

Sorry, couldn't help myself.

I spent every Christmas walking a plain clothes foot beat on skid row in Los Angeles from 1970 to 1978. Being Jewish, I always volunteered to work on Christmas, even though sometimes I won the holiday days off lottery. That way at least one other officer could spend a holiday with his family.

On Christmas my partner and I did not focus on arresting criminals, but on keeping everyone peaceful....that is, no fighting. So we would not be plain clothes, but would wear our uniforms.

One Christmas Eve, at about 3:00 in the morning we found a homeless, drunk, and very dirty man holding a child, about 18 months old. Four hours later we located the child's parents. The child had been taken from a stroller in a shopping mall about 30 miles away. On Christmas morning at about 8:00 am, I handed the child back to her very teary and overwrought mother. I was warmed in my heart by enabling another family enjoy Christmas together.

WOW.

I am sure that this was one of those shinning moments in your duties as a police officer. As an officer I would believe that most times when you are called into a situation it is when something has gone wrong and/or someone needs help. Being able to set something right must have been an extreme high, especially on Christmas morning.

Thanks for sharing this with us.

Spent a few Christmas on duty, USAF Air Police,(1955-1966) then crossed trained and got most Christmas off except Viet Nam for
Christmas 1967 which was not really that bad, but things turned to crap for Chinese New Year. Happy ??? TET 1968

So...you were a white hat. Mention that today and no one would know what you were talking about. Now they're referred to as Security Forces. So we've gone from MP to AP to SP to SF.
