Chili Cook Off (at SpyderFest)

Working with Len (Master Planner) it looks like we will be able to work in a chili cook off on Thursday evening. Kinda a Mo Gang challenge sort of thing and a way for the Mo Gang to show our appreciation for everyone in attendance. We all ready have 6 couples signed up to create a pot of chili and I'm sure there will be more. We will let you all Judge which batch is best. I think the Wife an I may have an advantage on this as long as I stay out of her way, and if anyone don't think Lily is a good cook, just look at me.

In 1990 I and a dozen other Australians attended a sporting event near Los Vegas and part of that was a chilli cook off.

One of the guys had a sister who was a commercial artist and we took some baked bean cans and had her do very professional labels, bar codes and all, that we could display next to our entry on the judges table.

One can said it contained "Koala chunks" and the other "Goanna pieces"
Now you should all know what Koalas are (and they are not bears either) but for those unsure of Goannas see below.

We were very surprised that many did not realise it was a joke - in Australia we preserve our native wildlife and what better way to preserve them than in a can!

One taster had a mouthful , picked up the can and then spat it out! Shame I don't still have pictures of the cans they were very convincing. We did not win, just an honorable mention. :roflblack:

Chilli Cookof

Any reason why we couldn't have a cook off A LOT sooner than April??? Say like maybe the first Saturday in Dec??? as in 4Dec? or there abouts. or sometime in Dec or for that matter how bout Nov??? April is just TOO far away!!! Nobody died when I took over a batch to Cowtown. I make a fair decent batch and a really good one once in awhile per MY taste anyway. How bout it gang are you up to something like that???:chat::spyder:

I placed 2nd in four chili cook-offs. Several judges said I would have taken 1st if they had the guts to swallow it...toooo HOT. I like my chili SPICY!! :roflblack:

Pooh is delicious if you just cook it right first. Ingredients are cheap and readily available just about anywhere! Bowl of Pooh anyone?
