Child car seat

Bone Crusher,
I approve this message... He needs to contact "Impact Diapers"

Too funny...that'd be great...diapers with airbags that would deploy when the car seat flies across the road...maybe it wouldn't need a CO2 cartridge but could work on the B.S. that this poor soul is throwing around here!

Come on! I merely asked and i still havent heard why, if it's safe enough for me to ride, why i can't take my son!!!!
OK ,you got us, stop this thread, this guy is pulling our chain :agree:
No one is this stupid and can pass the motorcycle test. :cus:

Actually, I don't think they're likely passing the life test...

I don't even want to know what else this cretin is doing with its children...

Look kids...12 foot waves...let's go in and ride them! If I can do it, so too can my 14 month/3 year old! Yippee!

Motza,

This is a ridiculous discussion. If I wanted to take an infant bungy-jumping, would I be allowed to? I mean, come on, I can...why can't a baby do it too?

This person is seemingly dense in that there is no way to properly secure a child to a Spyder...a car seat is not a fully contained roll cage and it is made for a car, not a bike!

My advice to this lost person is as follows...go ahead and take your infant on your Spyder and when the police arrest you, try to explain your indefensible position to them...(but officer, I can ride, why can't my baby just sit behind me in a CAR seat)...oh yeah...it's called a CAR seat for a reason...it's not a motorcycle seat!

Ek gad...cretins are taking over the world!

Enuf said!
This guy is just bored and has nothing better to do. See you in Philly this spring

Why would you even think about using a brand new child car seat, that's such a waste of money, why not just strap him into the front trunk of your Spyder, make yourself a homemade redneck child seat?
(Tatt2R... LaMonster...photos please)
That is a real visual :2thumbs:

I sincerely hope that your post about putting a carseat on a Spyder is your poor attempt at humor or a TROLL action.

Ok all you Einsteins and Mother Teresas, i merely floated the idea!!! Holy cow!! Try for one second to be rational and think about why you're so angry at the idea! A child seat makes the passenger more secure than an adult passenger would be!!!! The adult passenger has to hold on!!!!! Come on use your own brain!! By the way, I'm a medical doctor, graduated magna cum laude from the University of Notre Dame, Summa cum laude from Saint Louis University medical school, and have 6 happy healthy children! ! Holy cow Get a Grip on risk/reward issues!

I think it would be much safer if you put him in a trailer, that way you could get the whole family in there. :2thumbs::yikes::joke:

I'm pretty sure you were pulling some legs here but if you weren't.

At least the parents are wearing a helmet here. Yes there is a kid in the middle of those two.

How wonderful for you. Now if being strapped to a motorcycle offers so much security why don't they put seatbelts on the Spyder? The most important point is the idea, besides the fact that it is just plain irresponsible, is that it would most likely be illegal in most states, some states go by whether or not your passenger can touch the pegs and others go by age. I imagine that it would not be legal in any state to have your 14 month old on a motorcycle. Why don't you take the child skydiving or bungee jumping instead.

If my 10 year old hangs on for dear life, you're ok with that. But if i secure my infant, you're not. Hmmm...

Wow i was going to let this go to trolling but Lamont that cracked me up!!!!!

Anyways in my opinion it is crazy to put a child that young on any open ride vehicle no matter if that is a motorcycle, trike, spyder, 4 wheeler anything for several reasons.

1. Its unsafe if there were to be an accident there is not a DOT helmet that will fit a child of that age that i have seen. And last thing i would want to happen would be getting swide swiped with the infant on the back.

2. Exposure to the elements. You say your a doctor so i would think you would be aware that traveling even 35MPH in the heat/cold/ or any of the other elements of nature could cause increased harm to the child as they do not have as high of an immune system as an adult. (maybe i'm wrong here but all the children i know get sick easier than they do when grown)

3. Why would you want to risk your childs safetly by putting him out there vulnerable like that?

4. I'm a new rider myself and love it but my thinking is if I were to get hit by a car/truck/suv or any other object larger than myself I would not want to be strapped down to get crushed by that object. I would rather take my chances flying/sliding out of the way. Maybe my noobness is kicking in and i'm wrong on that point i'll let others tell me if i'm wrong.

Now i know the next thing to be said is why should you even ride if its that unsafe. Well here is your answer. its YOUR choice to ride you are of age to understand the risks you are taking and accept the concequences of those risks. Your infant however is not able to decide if they want to accept those risks and that is why it is up to the parent to make the right choice for them and personally due to the above it is a bad choice for a child of that age.

So that being said please be smart and use some common sense and don't strap the child to the back wait.

GO IRISH!!!!!!!!

I didn't say I was okay with it did I? Personally if they can't ride safely they wouldn't be on the back of any of my bikes. A child wouldn't be riding with me period.

Bottom line is this, do want you want. You reserve the right to be stupid, when it eventually results in something bad happening you won't find any sympathy from me.

Ok you all win but I'm just saying that, as a father of six, if this activity is SO DANGEROUS, maybe I should not ride AT ALL! I don't want to be hurt either! No one wants to be hurt! Let's all go back to our cars!

tnfleming,

You asked a question and you've been given a variety of answers. So here is one more for you.

One thing that I don't think anyone has brought up. Is it even legal? After all, it is called a "car" seat not a spyder seat or motorcycle seat. I don't know for sure but I would be willing to bet there are some laws regarding this. For instance in Michigan, a passenger has to be able to reach the footpegs to legally ride on the back of a bike.

Yes, motorcycle and spyder riding can be dangerous for any individual. I do think the spyder is a bit safer, and yes even going out in the car or taking a walk can be dangerous but we do it everyday. BUT, as adults we choose to do things that are a little more dangerous than just going out in a car or for a walk. We have experience and knowledge that helps us to cope that a very young child may not have yet. For instance, what if your child really enjoys riding on the back and is laughing and giggling and gets hit with or swallows and chokes on a bug. That hurts and we know enough to keep our mouths closed when riding. Also personally I wear a full faced helmet for this reason, it hurts when things hit me in the face. A young child has very soft skin and every underdeveloped bones yet. If they were to fall or if something were to fly up and hit them it would be much more detrimental to them, than it would an adult. I do not know of a helmet manufacturer out there that makes helmets in the sizes you are asking for either, or any other protective gear that many of us "adults" use. Your wife may not like you riding but you choose to anyway, that is between you and her, but these are her children as well and that is a decision that she should have some major say so in. If she is that uncomfortable with it and she has already said NO, think long and hard before you pursue the issue any further.
