• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

CHECK TRANSMISSION INDICATOR

I am looking for some help. I purchased 2009 SE5 May 09 here in Las Vegas. My problem is when I ride for some unknown reason my check transmission starts coming across my gauge with the tranny light lite up. Its been back at the dealer a few times already but they can't seem to figure out what it could be. It comes on at random as i'm driving on the road, there is nothing I notice what triggers this to happen. Has this occurred to anyone else? If so what did you have to do? Thank You.

Lowryder, because you are new, just in case you do not get satisfactory answers from this forum or your local dealer, contact the BRP customer service liaison, Carlo, at either 866.767.0707 or [email protected]

Its possible he will call you if you don't call him...he watches this site and is responsive.

Personally, I have never heard of your symptom, and I have an SE5 with 5000 miles.

Any fault displayed on the cluster should leave behind a diagnostic code that BUDS can read. There are many possible root causes for this warning...some intermittent. The diagnostic codes help pin them down. I'm not sure why your dealer is so puzzled. Of course it is possible that there are no codes and the warning is lighting spontaneously, which would likely indicate a bad transmission module or a bad cluster. Not likely, however. At any rate, your dealer can get technical assistance from BRP if need be. Take it back and lean on them to do a full diagnostic, and call BRP for help if need be.

See I told you lowryder..

Scotty I forgot about the whole code thing.. GREAT point..

lowryder try the below steps and see if you can pull the code off the computer, here are the step.

1) Turn the power on and start your spyder.
2) Using the mode button, press the button until total hours are displayed, again this is TOTAL HOURS and not trip hours
3) Holding the mode button done flash your high beam 3 times FAST.

If there are any fault codes in the computer they will now be displayed across the cluster otherwise,, there will be a statement that says "No Active Fault Codes"

NOTE: Its kind of tricky and you may have to do it several times in order to HIT the computer just right so to say.. Good luck--keep us posted Please..

welcome lowryder
i had same problem with my 09 se5 and dealer just could not figure out what was causing it and neither did brp. when it lit up, if i did not stop and reset, engine would just cut off within a minute or two.(i had lost power in a very busy intersection in los angeles... after that i would stop immediately when it came on)
but like some of other problems i had with my se5, it just went away on it's own after a while and has not happen since mile 18000, i think and i am at just over 31000 miles now. :dontknow:

WELL, HOWS IT RUNNING SINCE YOU PICKED IT UP FROM OUR SHOP, WAS THE LOOSE PIN CONNECTOR (GROUND WIRE) IN THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTING SWITCH HARNESS THE CAUSE OF THE INTERMITTENT TRANSMISSION FAULT ON YOUR GAUGE, I HOPE SO. JUST GENTLY WIGGLING THE HARNESS NEAR THE CONNECTOR SHOWED UP AS A BAD CONNECTION ON A MULTIMETER TEST. I GUESS SOME GOOD SEAT TIME ON YOUR SPYDER WILL TELL IF THE PROBLEM IS GONE FOR GOOD. INTERMITTENT ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS CAN BE MURDER TO DIAGNOSE AND HARD ON MY EGO:gaah:. HAPPY RIDING FRIEND !

I'm currently having this same problem on my 2010 RS-S. I have about 300 miles on it. One day, in my driveway, I believe I shut it down while in first. When I tried to start it, it would not drop to neutral and stalled when I gave it a little gas. I don't remember if there were any warnings on the display. I pushed it into my garage, about 10' and started it back up and the problem disappeared.

I rode maybe another 100 miles since and last Monday at work, I think I shut it off again in gear. When I started it this time, it did the same stalling symptom, would not drop to neutral but every few start attempts it would let me move without stalling. At this point, it would not shift up or down; stuck in first. I tried pushing it while it was off hoping to repeat what happened in my driveway to no avail. Check Transmission was scrolling across the display. I called the dealer and he had no suggestions. I had to call a flatbed and dropped back home since I didn't have time to go to the dealer. Hopefully I will do so this weekend.

If leaving it in first causes this type of problem/damage then the engine shouldn't shut down if so. There's enough safety protocols on this bike, adding something for that should not be difficult for BRP, assuming that's the problem.

To add insult to injury, I could not find any info on how to properly tie down this bike for transport in the manual. The tow truck driver was clues (rightfully so) so I had him tie-down to the aluminum behind the left foot rest. Yes, it snapped off just before we got to my house. I can only image how much that will cost me. The dealer was no hep nor could he compensate me for the tow explaining if I had the 3 year extended warranty it would be covered. I now have that warranty since I'm not at all feeling confident in this bike. My '06 Kawasaki Brute Force takes 10x the beating compared to the way I've babied this ride during the break-in and has never broken down. Sorry, end of rant, off to the dealer, already.

WJS, the tie-down instructions are in the owners manual, you put the straps through each of the three wheels. I did this last week for the Cuba, Missouri event, trailered eight hours round-trip, no problems.

As for the transmission, the owner's manual explains how to use the tool included in the tool kit to manually put it in neutral. Please call me if you need help. Gary 479-531-8086.

I must have missed that. It was a very frustrating day. To make it worse, the dealer couldn't tell me that either. They had no idea. They said the couldn't advise on how to tie it down because they would be liable. They said something about special straps they use that fit over the handlebars. I was going to go through the wheels but the tow truck driver refuse. Oh man, talk about suck.

I don't understand it; why didn't the dealer tell me any of this. I'm usually pretty cool headed but because I was in such a rush that night, the manual was a 2nd thought. That's why I called the dealer. Time to find a new dealer!

Thanks for the info. When I get home tonight I'm going to check all this out.
