• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Check one off my bucket list

I am a casual guitar player. I can play but I'm not great. I've always wanted to play well and study music seriously. I've signed up for serious guitar and music lessons. I have a lot of guitar "heroes". My goal is to play accurately with good tone. I've always wanted a Gibson SG or Les Paul. I'm looking into it. I'm also looking at PRS.

I've played off and on for years, but my playing could be much better. I love blues, Old time Rock and Roll, jazz, and the American Songbook.
I bought an American made Blond Telecaster in 1969 when I was in college. I think I paid $250 for it. I sold it later. Man, I wish I had that thing now.

Glad to hear there is another guitar player out there. Go for the Les Paul--they are pretty nice. I have two of those, amongst others. Also have a Tele. Country, Gospel, and Bluegrass here.

Pickin' and grinnin'

One of my guitar "idols ",if you will, is James Burton. I have been working on the classic riff from Hello Mary Lou. I want to play it perfectly. Another great guitar player is Brian Setzer. I would love to be able to play "Rock this town" well. Success only comes one way. Practice!

Rocksmith

Have you checked out Rocksmith? I am like you I tinker play rhythm & Keyboards in a few bands back in the day but never got good enough to suit me. It looks interesting. You can get the older version cheaper and there are some download songs available but the new 2014 songs are not backward compatible.

I've looked at Rocksmith. It looks interesting. I think You have to pay a subscription fee. I'll check it out after getting into my guitar instruction.

I always liked the tone of Gibson. My first guitar was an Epiphone Sorrento back when the were still Gibson's.( I just looked and WOW they have a 50th Anv model like mine for $699) I currently have a Fender Squire and an Epiphone acoustic. My porky short fingers like the Fender fret board better. I have been thinking of starting to play again they have been sitting for too long.:opps:

Bruisersbaby plays guitar. She has a Greco.

A few of my top guitar pickers are Vince Gill, Jason Crabb, Mart Stuart, Carlos Santana, Jimmy Page, Dickie Betts and many others.

Got a Les Paul electric and a Gibson flat top here. I keep trying to pick it like Tony Rice or Jimmy Martin, but I don't think that is ever gonna happen!! I think I am setting my sights a little high.

Sent from the corner of walk and don't walk....

Didn't Alvin Lee play on an SG?

This one is mind-boggling because both the lead AND the Bass are SERIOUSLY earning their paychecks!

Great music; from a true "Axe-Man"

Glad to see so many guitar players here. I only play casually these days since giving up my band a bit over 40 years ago. I'm a dedicated Country music fan and player (finger picking). I also play banjo and mountain dulcimer as well as harmonica. My current favorite guitar is the Zager ZAD80CE. Much easier on the hands and fingers for hours of playing without arthritis giving me a fit. My current collection is a Les Paul, 2 Epiphones the Zager 1 mountain dulcimer, 1 5string banjo and 2 harmonicas. I still keep a collection of amps and mikes (you never know). These days all my singing is done 3 nights a week at karaoke (hey, the voice aint what it once was):gaah:.

:agree: It's not a style of music that I listen to; but he sure had that "axe" singin'! :2thumbs:
Catherine Bach??; now we'll need some videos of her... :D

Dave,
 I'm almost ashamed to say this; the guy didn't impress me much...:opps:
I'm not even sure if I can explain why...

Between Alvin Lee's, "WoodChopper's Ball", and this one... You KNOW what I like!

That was just another plug for Rocksmith. I wish I could pull off some of those riffs. He was just doing the songs from the program.
