There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Check engine light

Hello

I am a new Swedish Spyder owner. I've got a problem with my Spyder RS 2010. I washed Spyder yesterday and went on a little trip. It went just fine then. This morning when I started the Spyder it says check engine on the display and the engine light is on. It does not sound good either. Almost like it goes on only one cylinder.

Regards Robert

Robert, more than likely that will be a rare occurence. All I did was turn my spyder off and restart and it was gone. I also found that on the two or perhaps three times mine did the same thing, that I had just started it and quickly shut it off before starting it again when that display occurred. I don't think I'd get real excited about it. Especially if you rode it and didn't experience any problems.

Right now the i can´t use the Spyder because the engine sounds very strange and vibrates. I will call the dealer tomorrow.

:welcome:

Sounds like a good chance one of the plugs is fouled, or perhaps there is an issue with the plug wire. Taking it to the dealer would be a good idea at this point. Hopefully they will find a quick, easy, fix for the issue and get you back to ryding very soon.

Best of luck with it, and let us know what the problem turns out to be.

Check engine light on at red line

I just bought a new 2011 Spyder. I was racing a vett and the check engine light came on when I red lined it. When I turned it off and turned it back on the light was gone. Is this a safety feature or did I hurt the engine?

It is not a safety feature. You also likely did not hurt the engine. There are a number of possible causes, especially with a new engine. If the light does not return, I wouldn't worry about it. if it does, see the dealer. They will be able to retrieve the error code on BUDS. BTW, they also will see a graph of your rpm, the average, and the highest rpm, so if you exceeded the break-in specifications, they will know. As to the wisdom of racing a fresh engine...I think my dad said it best, "Terrible waste of machinery!" :lecturef_smilie:

SPIRICON, Same thing happened to mine a few months ago. SAME SYMPTOMS, turned out to be the ignition coil went bad. I washed my spyder and took a short ride, stopped for coffee, BAMM ignition coil went bad. Check engine light and only one cylinder was firing, and no power. Get it to the dealer ASAP. Just remember, although it will drive on one cylinder it's not good for it.

Can you take the cables off the battery and clear the code history like on a truck?

:welcome:

If you have an active fault code showing on the display screen, you can usually shut the Spyder down for 30 seconds or so, turn the key on and off 3 times without starting the Spyder, and that will clear the active code. The history is still recorded; however, the computer only has so much memory to store these fault codes so it is a first in first out type of deal.

Hello again

Now the problem is solved. My reseller replaced one of the ignition coils and the ECU. Is this a common problem or is my machine the first one?

Not the first one but not a common problem at all. You people in salt country probably have a lot more problems than us in the hot belt. Salt corrodes lots of contacts and connections leading to problems...

Did you not read post #9 when I told you what the problem with mine was ??? :( :dontknow:
Whats with your dealer ??? It was either the ignition coil or the ECU. It could not have been both. If it was covered under warranty overkill fixing is good. If it wasn't covered thats real bad.

Hello

Sorry, I missed your post. My reseller said that he changed the ignition coil for cylinder one, but it did not fire up anyway. Then he talked with BRP here in Sweden and they said that it could be the ECU. Everything is under warranty thank god.

I will be very careful when I wash my machine in the future.

Robert, Water could cause ignition problem causing a plug to miss fire and or foul.....Especially if using high pressure washers....

Had the engine light come on at americade no limp mode thou. and in started to breakup at 4000-4500 rpms once past that it was fine or seemed so. the light went out but my dealer was on the way home so i left it their he put it on the buds and said something like 02 sensor grounding out? last time it said that we added a fuse to the foglights which i do not have and it cleared? So he is going to do a thorough check of it?

Rog, last summer i had the same problem twice, But after a while the engine wouldn't run at all. The first time it was the ecu, Took the month of July to get a new one. Ran great the month of Aug. The second time it was a spark plug wire, lost two weeks in Sept.
If your spark plugs were changed recently i would have them check the wires first.:dontknow:
