• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. Check engine light/screen - no fault codes

We were 160 miles into a 300 mile ride today when my wife's 2011 RT Limited started displaying the Check Engine light and orange screen. About 10 miles prior we had just filled up with gas. My first instinct was the gas cap had not been replaced properly. I reseated it yet the bike continued to display the check engine light/screen. We could not leave it where we were so I told her just to ride it till either it died or we got home. The bike ran perfectly all the way home. Other than the light/screen there was no indication of anything wrong. No sounds. No smells. Nothing. When we got in I looked up how to check for fault codes. I did the Mode-Set-Signal Cancel and the main screen did not display any code, just a blank white screen. We just got it back from the dealership two and half weeks ago and don't relish waiting 3 weeks to get it looked at plus the 1.5 hour trip to get it there.

Anyone have any thoughts?

The way that the Spyder is configured. You could ride without a gas cap and it will not cause a fault. So gas cap can be ruled out right away.

When you check for fault using the 3 button push for your RT. It will only show active fault codes not ones that have occured. So you have to check for fault codes when the engine light or whatever other warning lights are on.

The check engine warning light/screen is "on" and still no code displayed. That is my conundrum.

I think that if there's an actual problem kicking around: the computer will store the code for any event. The dealership can pull all of the stored codes via BUDS...
Without a code to chase down: it's just about an impossible task to find the source of an issue... :dontknow:

I would think if it was bad gas that the bike would not be running perfect. This is a hard one to figure out. Did you do the key walk away for several minutes ? If there is a spare key on the bike also remove that from the bike when you do a key walk. If that doesn't work, it may be time for a dealer visit.

We had a 13 RT limited and had the same thing happen. Dealer changed out the purge valve. No more problems.

Sorry that does not happen. If the engine warning light is on. Then there is an active code or codes. Do it this way instead. Press and hold both the Mode and Set button. Then press the Turn Signal Cancel button. Then release all 3 buttons.

Sorry, it did do it that way :banghead:. Check engine light was on, screen was orange with check engine indicator and when I did the Mode-Set-TurnSignalCancel all I got was a blank white screen. I should have taken a video to prove this but...

I think my bad gas theory might have been correct. This morning was still in check engine situation and was on empty. Put in about 4 oz. of Lucas Oil Cylinder Oil Fuel Treatment and filled it with Shell (thank you Top Tier Gas) premium. Initially the check engine light did not go off. We drove about 3 miles, pulled over and turned the bike off for about 5 minutes and when we restarted it the light and screen indication had gone off. We rode for about 100 miles and no issues.

My Harley was running rough at the end of yesterday as well so that is what triggered possibly bad gas.

It is almost time for some new shoes so when we take it in for those I will have the dealer check for prior codes.

It is possible to have a blank code screen when the dreaded orange screen of death appears. I had that happen on my wife's 2010 RTS. Took it to the dealer and he did the same thing. Said it happens. It's rare but does happen.
