Charges for U Fit changes

Is it normal to be charged $320 to make the U Fit changes to a new F3-S ?
My handlebar was changed to Position A and my pegs were changed to position 4 on a SE6.

Not much info. but if you bought an F3S and then want a dealer to make changes you can bring the bike in and they will make any change you want and charge you their going rate. They always sound high to me. I would do that kind of stuff myself.

Seems kind of high to me.
The parts that have to change to move the U-FIT system to a new position is the brake link rod (at ~ 30 bucks from Can Am).
The rest of the charge would be just labor.
Sounds like they charged you for ~ 2 hours of labor.:hun:
I would guess it would have taken only about 20 minutes of work at most to make the changes.

Me...I would have ordered the part then did the work myself.
However I realize not everyone has the mechanical skills to work on their Spyder. :dontknow:

I paid for the handlebar and the brake position rod. Got 10% off and free installation in my deal.

And...I got the OEM handlebars and and brake position rod that it came with. They were in my trunk when the bike arrived.

The handlebar was 135 and the rod was 27. The balance was labor. I think the worst part is that this cost did not show up in the original invoice. It only came up after I drove 6 hours to pick the Spyder up. At that point I just wanted to get back on the road. Thank you for your input.

Figuring in tax of approx 5.5%. So, $162 + $9 tax for parts and $180 + $10 tax = $360'sh. Labor in my area is around $115/hr, so about 1.5 hr? The brake linkage takes about 20 minutes. Do you have heated grips? If so, labor to swap bars is more extensive. Aren't these bars internal wired ? Doesn't sound too awful crazy.

The dealer didn't even have the rods there to adjust the brakes on my new F3-S when I bought it. I told them to get the rod and mail it to me, because I wasn't bringing it back down there for that. They charged me $60 and when the rod got here it was for both sides. I have the SE and only needed the brake rod. I never ordered anything else through the dealer after that. They have people working there that seem to be walking around in a fog. It took about 10 minutes to move the brakes/peg and tighten it back up.

They should have fit you when you bought

Yeah, they do that, but the F3 they are fitting you for comes with stock bars and brake rod that needs to be replaced. CanAm don’t say that the u-fit alterations to fit you are free, just that you can make alterations. It’s a trap for new buyers. If you know there is a cost to get a new brake rod and bars, you can usually negotiate either the parts, or the labour, (or sometimes both) as part of the purchase price. If you have a good dealer, they will let a newbie know there is an extra cost for the parts and labour. If you have a profit oriented dealer, you can bet you will not know about (or expect) this additional cost until you pick up the F3......sneaky bastards.

Unless they have made some significant changes to the 2019 F3, heated grips make zero difference to labor costs as they are in the external wiring to the grips. Remove the grips from the end of the bars, unbolt the bars, put the new bars in, reinstall the grips. Internally wired? Don’t you have cables running up the outside of your bars to the grips on your 2019 F3-s, Troop? Even so, I agree, the pricing sounds reasonable. It’s just a shame that TripleTree didn’t know about the additional cost before he haggled the price. ;)

I do, but for some reason, I thought heated grips were wired internally. The dealer had them installed at purchase.
** Just looked at handlebar install directions. Looks easier than I thought. I stand corrected :) . Labor rate still doesn't sound too awful crazy to me. **

They should have given you the stock handlebars and the stock foot rods when you had them replaced, ask for them, they are yours, and unless you got heated grips, you paid way too much and I would demand a detailed list of the costs.

As per another comment, make sure you get the parts taken off back. They are yours. You may need them if you sell the bike. Otherwise, don't worry about the cost but next time you buy a OEM BRP part, check the install instructions to determine whether you can do it yourself.

I changed the handlebar on mine from regular to short and it made a noticeable difference. I'm sure you will appreciate the new setup.

Safe riding,

J

Ahhhhhh. I thought that might have been what you meant about the heated grips, Troop:thumbup: . I thought the same until I replaced my bars, only to be pleasantly surprised how easy a bar replacement was without having to fiddle with cables

I did not realize the change also included new handle bars.
That would definitely make the parts and labor realistic.
