The 16th I'm going on vacation, starting in Fort Worth, TX going to PagasaSprings, Creed, Lake City, Gunninson, Leadville, Buna Vista, Colorado Springs, Siverthorn, Keystone, Brickenridge, Vail, Gleenwood springs, Durango, Silverton, Ouray, Montrose, then Santana California for work, then back to Fort Worth! All on the F3s.
Question, have 4400 miles on the F3, the rear tire has 5/32 of center tread left, with 5000 miles to go, would you put a new tire on? How many miles are you'll getting on the rear?

My experience with motorcycle tires over many years is that the last half of tire tread wears out faster than the first half and my experience with the Spyder is you will be needing a new tire before the end of your trip. I am not one to run the tire bald and typically replace at 3/32. The price of a tire is cheaper than sitting on the side of the road with a tire that can not be fixed with a plug kit.

I agree, changing the tire now puts you in control. If you get it changed on your trip you may pay more or you might have to wait. Now the BIG question, what tire?

wow...with all the places you are going you should have no problem replacing the tire when you need one. Be safe and enjoy the trip..:yes::yes::2thumbs:

There are dealers along the way and you could check with them before you leave to see if they have tires available and if they could change it for you on the date you will be there. I'd probably change the tire before I left so I am not at the mercy of a dealer. Do you want to spend a day waiting for a tire or do you want to ride and see the sights?

IMHO, from what I've heard about the tire wear on the F-3's , I don't think waiting and getting this done on " THE ROAD " sounds like your best option........and I firmly believe in switching to premium car tires.....you may lose 1% in traction but gain 150 % in additional wear, I think it's a no brainer..............if you change your tire now it's at your convenience, if the tire fails it's at someone else's, and you may not get anything even close to what you want.............plus pay a hugh premium price to boot........Mike :thumbup:

:yikes:......If you stick with the stock size you are very limited in the car tire area ...Kumho and Maxxis ( I believe ), however if you use a 215/60-15 you have lots of choices.....and this size will correct the speedo error on the RT and RS models.......what it will do on the F-3 I can't say. According to a survey of 15 tires that I did recently the General Altimax RT-43 had the best rating in wet/dry/ anti-hydroplaning tests......it also had a very decent wear rating.............Is it the BEST...............Well my feeling is ...it's more the driver than the tires....Mike :thumbup:

The only correct answer is "Yes!" :thumbup:
Seriously; it sort of depends on how and where you ride.
If you've been happy with the OEM's performance, and don't mind the tire-life; they do offer consistency throughout the tread-life.
Mike is right; OEM sizes do force you into only a couple of choices. (I'm running a Kumho right now on my bike.)
215/60-15 might correct your speedometer a little bit... if that is really important to you.
205/55-15 will virtually match the diameter of the OEM tire, if you prefer to stay closer to stock. :thumbup:

There is a lot to say for peace of mind.

Blowing a tire on a two wheelers is scary situation and on the F3 could pose some safety issues as well. I have always taken the position the my life is worth more than the cost of a tire.

I think that's Pagosa Springs, and make sure you stop into Telluride....prettiest place on earth! and Santa Ana is two words!
