Cell phone interface for 2012 RT only??

I've seen the Fred Rau youtube video talking about a cell phone interface harness for the 2012 RT Limited.

Does anyone have cell phone interface for a 2011 RT Limited?? That is a crucial point on buying an '11 now or wait for the '12s to come out.

Th GPS has it

The Zumo 660 provides a cell phone interface via Bluetooth. this is Standard equipment int the 2011 Limited.

I added the same GPS to my RTs and it works very well to interfade with my Blackberry.

So you can receive calls, place calls and speak on the phone with nothing more than the BRP headsets??? Everything else cuts out while using the phone??

The reason I'm asking, even the dealer doesn't seem to know.

As of now, you have limited connectivity with the Zumo and the BRP headsets.
You can bluetooth the cell phone to the Zumo. Using the Zumo you can answer calls or place calls, and the Zumo transmits the incoming sound through the BRP headset.

Currently, there is no connection between the BRP microphone and the Zumo, so there is no outgoing sound to your cell phone through the BRP headset.

Specifically, you can hear the caller, but they can't hear you.

I'm using a work around, I have a throat mic that is connected to the mic input of the Zumo. It's comfortable to wear and only takes a few extra seconds to put on while I put on my helmet. I installed the Zumo myself, so I made sure to leave the Zumo mic connection readily accessible.

I've asked my dealer to find out what is special about the 2012 design that integrates the whole setup. It may be a module connected to the entertainment harness or something else simple. If it is a simple and inexpensive mod, I'll get my 2010 RT retrofitted.

If it requires replacing the radio, or something elaborate I'll just stick with what I have.

I suspect it's the former, and I'll post anything once I know for sure.

I can make and answer calls. I can voicedial and access my phone contacts and call history all through the GPS. I do not use BRP headsets. I have ScalaRider G4. The phone is paired to the GPS and the GPS is paired to the headset via bluetooth.

If I need the CB to be able to talk with other riders (Wing riders) the ScalaRider won't work, right?

That's correct; The CB will not work through the Scala.

I'm trying to educate myself to the world that is Spyder as my best freind is ready to buy one and hasn't been on a bike in 25 years. He's depending on me ( a Wing rider) to let him know what he needs. I'm amazed BRP hasn't already addressed this issue. It would seem to be a no brainer to have this option.

Evidently, the issue was addressed for the 2012 model. We need to find out if the solution can be retrofitted into existing Spyders.
Net net, if the cell phone integration is a deal breaker for your friend, I'd hold out for a 2012 model.

Is there any other comm system that anyone knows of that works for CB and phone without two mics in the helmet? J&M? Edsets? N-Com?

I would wait get all the details for the 2012 models before getting a 2011 model . I bought my 2010 at the end of 2010 riding season which is Nov 1 for us. I had all the details for 2011 models before deciding. Just MHO;)

.

A slight correction to this. Using the BRP OEM configuration, the above statement is correct. However, you can be heard, but it is through the tiny microphone on the front of the Zumo. Might as well call it unusable if going 75mph. You have to basically yell to be heard above the wind and engine noise. At speeds around 30-40 and below, it seems you can be heard fairly well. At least that's my experience.

Cell phone on 2011 RT

I just installed a Magellan Maestro 4050 on my 2011 RT. I used the Can-am mount and cable ($150) which allowed me to hear the voice instructions from my gps and also hear calls from my Bluetooth cell phone. The gps instructions and cell phone calls mute the radio and come through the speakers. All I had to do is buy a 3.5 extension cord at Radio Shack and plug the male end into my gps's headset socket and the female connects to the Cam-Am's cable. As long as your gps has a headset input and Bluetooth it will work as good as the Garmin Zumo the factory puts on the LTD.

:hun: I too am confused. Do the GPS instructions come thru the front external speakers or the helmet speakers? Where are the phone call heard? Do you use the helmet mic for the phone? Do you have a wired system? The instructions say to plug the SpYder harness into the headphone female plug. Do you use the micphone female plug?

You have to purchase the Can-Am GPS plug, it comes with the mount for $150 but you can buy it alone for $50 because it is an item on the limited model. The dealer will have to look it up in the parts catalog for the limited. The plug has three wires two for the power and one male that looks like a mini male headphone plug. This plug connects to the Can-Am's radio unit. I went to radio shack and bought an head phone extension cord that had a male and a female end. I plug the male into the jack on my Gps used for headphones and female connected up with the male on the Can-Am plug. You can do this with any Gps that has a headphone jack and Bluetooth (For Cell). Now the when the Gps give the instructions it mutes the radio and plays out the radio speakers. If your Gps has Bluetooth for your cell the radio will also mute and you can hear the caller on the radio speakers. You have to use the Gps mike to talk on the cell. This is not perfect at 70mph but acceptable at 50mph. I hope this answers you questions.
Stevedfive, the picture you have is of the Zumo's plug that would plug into the Can-Am's cable I bought. The bike has a plug that mates with the Can-Am's plug located just under the right side upper panel.
