• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Caught in the act! (with pic)

I don't understand the seeming lack of manufacturing consistency. Isn't one of the hallmarks of an assembly line supposed to be consistency? Why do some leak and others don't? There must be a reason for this.....

Are all of you that are having fuel drip/smell issues still running canisters with the purge valve connected?

My 12' has never dripped or smelled bad of gas like you all are experiencing. I overfill like crazy and try to get every drop in that tank! I'm not running, nor have I run since new, the canister and my purge is plugged.

The harsh reality is that NO spyder should drip like that. You should be able to fill the tank without fear of filling the evap cannister causing this mess. There needs to be a check valve or something inplace to keep the fuel out of the cannister. Its kinda scarry that the dripping fuel is right up in front of the extremly hot catilytic converter.:yikes:

Actually: no fuel should ever get IN the canister...
If it does; it wrecks the canister's ability to function as planned, and makes it stink!

my mistress

my 2012 Rt has always smelled, hot to the ankles and in the shop more than I ride. but, hey I put all that aside because of
the deep love I have for her! :roflblack:

Its not a leak in that it is not a drain of liquid gas. Its gas condensing vapors from the canister that is overwhelmed with the quantity of fuel vapors being sent to it. The different in why some bikes drip and some just fill the garage with fumes directly is local temperature and humidity as well as temp of the bike. IE the difference is environmental, not the bikes. Its all the same problem. WAY to much vaporizing gas do to far too much heat being applied to the bare metal fuel tank. Then the evap emissions system simply cannot handle the amount of vapors so out it goes......

Looks normal to me. Mine has done it from day one. The entire emissions system was replace and nothing changed. BRP suggests you park it outside till things cool and it quits dripping, before storing in any enclosure.

Do I like it? NO. But, it ain't gonna change. Not unlike the blow torch right foot heater we will continue to live with.

Just the facts.

Just because they all do it does not mean its right. THIS DOES NOT MEET FEDERAL EMISSIONS STANDARDS. Its as simple as that, and its flat out dangerous. Sooner or later there will be a garage fire and BRP will be defending themselves in a product liability case. I just don't want to be the plaintiff.

No gas gets in my canister, sitting on a shelf. Any drips of gas fall on the garage floor at the rear of my spyder, away from any heat source, since the vent tube was rerouted there.

My 2010 has never dripped gas, (yep, I've over filled it many times trying to get the last bit of gas in it) it smells like the other motorcycles in my garage. Just smells like a motorcycle. The heat is manageable and I've never needed to complain. I have done the simple mods like spyderpops block off plate and removing the lower pans. That's it. I have Lamont's NBV's and am very comfortable on the highways. Believe me, if mine would have given the repeated problems that I read about I would have been an X Spyder owner by now. I have very little tolerance for problems on motorcycles, cars or anything that cost 5 figures. I have had 0 problems with mine and look forward to every time I take a trip on it. Is my 2010 RTS the exception? I don't think so. I am sure that there are thousands more on the road that have very little problems. I have run into many Spyder riders that are not aware of Spyderlovers and have not heard of any issues at all.
We read about '10's and '11's that have had a run of bad throttle bodies,(never had a problem with mine) not sure of the common problems on the '12's. The '13's obviously have the design problems with the heat, no doubt about that. Even some of the '13 owners have less problems than others.
This is like trying to herd cats to figuring out the cause of all of the issues. Good luck to all of you with issues, I hope they get resolved soon and you can enjoy the Spyder as much a I.

You're right, but I never said IT was right. I merely mentioned how we have been advised to deal with it.

As far as potential litigation is concerned. It appears BRP is willing to deal with that potential on a case by case basis....should any incidents occur. Because it's pretty obvious they have no intenion of doing anything about it after all these years.

I have a tendency to tell it like it is from my point of view, rather than participate in a personality contest. Didn't intend to light you or anyone else up. :D
