There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Catastrophic tire failure

Anybody had a catastrophic tire failure? Front or rear? I've had them on two wheelers and they are no fun. Does having three wheels make it less heart stopping? Does nanny keep things under control? Maybe it hasn't happened but surely someone has been there after this much time. Does a front tire failure cause a sudden turn in that direction? I wonder because we preach a light grip. I can just see the handlebars suddenly pulled from your grip. Or a rear tire failure and because the rear is so large, it causing the rear end to swing violently from side to side. Any real stories out there?

I know your referring to Spyders,but I just saw a guy go down on a '67 Yamaha 2cyl. 2-stroke.
The rear tire blew out.
Might have helped if he had changed out the original tires!

I got my RT in 2010. I had less than 1000 miles on it when I ran over a piece of metal on a busy 4 lane highway. It cut the side wall on the front tire. The :f_spider: bearly move now I was only running 45 mph. With the side wall cut the tire went down less than a football field.Drove it less than mile to tire store. Took me 6 hours to call a friend to pick up new tire from dealer bring it to me and have tire store put it on.

Cheerful thought..!!

Have not yet and hope to never have one of those..but your right in that it must have happened..

I've dealt with this, the bike handles fine, a little squishy for turning but it is stable and easy to deal with. Slime pump and tire plugs had me back on the road in 15 min.

Had a rear tire failure two weeks ago. It wasn't catastrophic but the rear end became squirrley real quick. I was running 60 when I heard and felt an unfamiliar rumble. Slowed down to about 30 just as the rear started to whip back and forth. Fortunately I was able to get off the road into a parking lot. Only 6100 miles on the tire. No sign of a puncture but the valve stem was cut at the rim. The inside side wall of the tire was shredded. Had it happened earlier when I was travelling at 70 mph :yikes:.

Just another GOOD REASON for moving the valve stem to the other side of the REAR wheel.....PROTECTION.........Mike

It's that 70+ I'm wondering about sudden and complete air pressure loss. I'm thinking three wheels just HAS to be better than two but is it? I've had tank slappers and they are no fun. And riding with a loose grip, having a front tire go has me wondering.

If you had a front tire lose pressure rapidly; you'd still have time enough to pull your belt up tight, grit your teeth, and get ready for the fun...

And unlike a "tip-over"; you're not falling down on your head! :2thumbs:

I tend to agree Bob. Now if a rear were to go at high speed hang on and get ready to ride :cus: bull. :yikes:
