There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Anthony said something some time back about switching to different forum software. Could these problems be connected to that? I experienced both of the above mentioned issues last night and today.

But it seems there was also a database hiccough yesterday, a bit before this search issue started, & before the system was down for a short while too; so maybe it's something to do with one or both of those instead? :dontknow:
Regardless, the message has been passed on and as AFAIK it's being addressed most expeditiously.
In the meantime, please remember that sometimes, these problems aren't at all easy to find; and even when they are found, they can be a whole lot harder to resolve too!! But at least we've still got a Forum to use for now!
