Can you bypass VSS?

Hello Everyone,

I'm still relatively new to the Spyder, but is there a way to disable or bypass the VSS (Vehicle Stability System)? That system is a good safety feature and all (for novice riders), but it takes a lot of the fun away! Any incite would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

One can have a lot of fun with the RS without disabling the VSS :thumbup:

I do not think there is a way to do it. At least, not without having other electronic problems.

Anyway, there is... but I'm not gonna be the one who gets you hurt or killed. The one guy who actually did disable the VSS for street use, promptly crashed. You need to leave it alone and get used to it.

Some people want to disable the VSS? Maybe I have gotten too cautious with time and just want to live longer without more scars. I guess he is just too good for us "novice riders"! It makes it harder to try and answer such a question as his. Maybe he will figure it out himself and then leave us all behind.

Yeah... a momentary switch, maybe. I've thought about it... just haven't done it.

I don't personally care to disable the VSS on my Spyder. However, I do recall several people asking the same question when the Spyders first hit the streets. Although we've come to understand that the VSS is probably best left active; thanks to others' misfortunate experimentation. I don't think it is necessary to welcome new Spyderlovers with such a condescending tone. We all have our opinions, and regardless of what you think of me, him, or anyone else, the basis of this forum is to share ideas, knowledge, and help one another. Just my two cents.

I'm sorry, I did not mean to hurt anyone's feelings. I did not mean everyone in here is a novice rider if they want/love their VSS. I simply meant that it seems the system is pretty conservative and doesn't allow you to really decide what your own limits are...it decides and sets them for you. I would like to decide my own limits and take my own responsibility. Perhaps this isn't a machine that one would want to do that on though?

I don't know of many motorcycles that have any type of VSS, so I just thought it would be nice to be able to bypass it. I know that BRP has VSS for a reason and that it's trying to avoid legal issues by doing so. I've seen videos from BRP with that system disabled, so I thought maybe there would be some guys on here that have already figured it out. I think the Spyder has far more capability in the twisties than what the VSS will allow. I would like to test those capabilities!!! :thumbup:

I see we live close? How do you like your MMG backrest? I have their 29 tooth sprocket and air intake. I like their products so far! Also, how does your Leo Vince sound? I'll be purchasing an exhaust as soon as Dynojet comes out with a PC for the Spyder...

Wow! I'm new to the Spyder, but definitely not new to riding motorcycles. AGAIN, I did not mean to hurt anyone's feelings and I WAS NOT calling anyone on here a novice rider. I was simply stating that the VSS seems to be pretty conservative and meant to avoid legal issues. I've gotten pretty crazy on it, but it does seem to kick in quite early in certain situations where I feel it has much more potential. In other words, it's a very safe ride that even a novice rider wouldn't have to worry about. AGAIN, i'm not calling other people on here novices, just stating what I think about it. You didn't get near to hurting my feelings. I am just one that hates to see others doing something that is potentially dangerous. If you want to disable the VSS and you do it, more power to you. I came within sight of death's door 29 years ago from an accident because I was stupid and if you have never been there, you don't want to. But it's your decision, I was just trying to maybe be too blunt in keeping you from possible pain. Ryde it like you want to.

I wish there were different settings for the VSS and personally wish it wouldn't turn on until around 25 mph.

I can tell you that it did kick in a few times on the Dragon--- and considering someone on a Goldwing trike died just past the Dragon on 28 around the same time we were riding--- we should all be glad to have such a system!

Adding the performance swaybar helps so it doesn't go off as much. New shocks would probably help too!

You can disable the VSS by removing wheel speed sensors and hanging them up outta the way. You will also want to pull the fuse for the power steering as it will no longer disable at speed. If you are a careful rider I do not see a problem with trying it out. The guy who had a problem was doing donuts and hit a pothole. Of course, if you get in an accident it's another reason for the insurance co. to deny your claim.
