That is not a real genuine BRP hitch kit It is an after market hitch only.
Jack
You are correct, it is the Big Bike Parts hitch, it is what prompted this thread in the first place.

The best solution: a PM from a member willing to sell his BRP hitch kit at the BBP price because it looked like too much trouble to install.
Thank you Joe.
Thanks! Good to know.....
Considering his handle, you can be sure BB knows what he's saying!! :roflblack::roflblack:
I am sorry but what your dealer told you is a large steamy pile of BS. Your Spyder does not know your trailer is attached unless you choose trailer mode in the menu.
Looks like I'm not the only one who was told this............
http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?38551-Trailer-Mode&highlight=TRAILER+MODE
After my wife and I spent an entire summer long vist in the hospital (1977) due to a motorcycle accident we are extreamly careful of what can affect our health & safety on a bike - We just
started riding again 2014 via a Spyder (She will never get on two wheels again) So this info on hitches and "Trailer Mode" stuff is on the top of our most important list as we are about to purchase a trailer
this spring to go on trips.
It is one of the many often parroted myths about the Spyder. Some other example are: The magical key walk. Filling engine oil to the full line will fill the air box with oil. Not filling oil to the full line will cause a SE5 not to shift right. A new battery will fix all electrical problems even if the battery load tests good. Not plugging a battery tender when parked will a destroy your battery in days. There are more of course and some have a basis in a small grain of fact but have been exaggerated to the ridiculous.
Just have an adjunct question for the wisdom of the group....... My 2012 RT had a trailer mode that was accessible from the setup menu on the display..... my 2014 RT Ltd does not have this option.... how does the 2014 know when I am pulling my trailer?:dontknow:
Thanks for your replies!:clap:opcorn:

You need to read more closely. It's A BBP (Big Bike Parts) Hitch.
Jerry
:agree:No trailer mode on the 14-15. Its simply does not care.

Filling the oil to full cold WILL dump oil into the filter. Leaving it 1/8- 1/4 inch low hot has no effect on a SE5 shifting. My air box is clean. I know I do it and never had an issues so it is not a myth. Not using a tender for several weeks not days (or riding it) will drain your battery maybe not to a level that destroys it but to a point that it may pop a code. Stators take a looong ride to recharge batteries.

I was thinking about this "warranty" part of the discussion this morning while swimming around in my coffee cup...
Early on; there were a bunch of instances when faulty control modules wreaked havoc on RT electrical systems. With the BRP hitch; they were on the hook for the repairs.
If you let your best friend's cousin's, sister's, ex-brother in law hack into the wiring to light the trailer; what do you think BRP will have to say about it, if things get ugly?
