• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Can-Am Luggage Rack/Backrest

How many folks have done this install themselves? I looked around, but saw limited traffic on this. I believer dealer install is charging around 2 hours and at $90/hour - just don't see paying another $400 for the two Spyders we have to do this install. But if it is an annoying job - I could change my mind.

Thanks for any insight!

Beside the pics & advice at Lamont's link...

I probably didn't take a couple of hours on it, but I was working r e a l leisurely.

(Just FYI, 5'4" daughter, 5'10" bride, and 6'1" son all rode on the back and agreed the backrest made it a different vehicle for the passenger; much, much more relaxing for them.)

On an unrelated note, I picked up a Nelson-Rigg CTB-200 roll bag

which I think will attach well to the funky shape of the rear of the rest on top of (what's left of) the luggage rack.

I'll post pics tomorrow, after I (hopefully) sell my Katana!

Those are great photos. I think this is one of the best reasons for having forums like this.....to help others with things like this, and to help get needed information. I always thought they were just a bunch of people gabbing aimlessly with no specific purpose or reason! ;D

please post the pics as you said...if it works out I would be interested in doing the same thing...thanks

Here you go, czdaryle...

(As usual, forgive the cel phone photos!)

Despite the very strange and funky surface area aft of the backrest due to the locking lever, the Nelson-Rigg roll bag cinched up nicely to the backrest support as well as to the two "OMG" handles. I intend to leave it on when I'm not running with the saddlebags, as it'll remove very quickly.

I went with these (while I wait for N-R to design a tankbag!) since I have a passenger often, precluding the use of tail bags pretty much. This is the third N-R bag I've bought, and I'm very pleased with the workmanship.

You may not be able to tell in the photos, but any little bit of silver is reflective material...

(Oh, yeah, and the micron is on now, too! Thanks again, Ev!)

I didn't have the rigid plastic stiffener installed properly in the above photo; below it's correct.

Very nice. Now I can see it in all it's glory! Man, your silver Spyder sure looks good. Makes me kind of wish I didn't order the yellow! Oh, well.

Thanks, Derwin, but a l l colors of Spyders are beautiful!!

(Actually, I'm thinking of running some black pinstriping on the silver panels, until, of course, I finally paint the whole thing candy apple cherry black, with black chrome wheels...) :joke:
