The hybrid is currently just a "promise"... designed to keep folks looking. :shocked:
Don't count on it anytime soon.
They'll wait until battery and power management technology is up to the task before they get serious.
 
I'd rather have the hybrid than the bigger engine... would be nice to only have to stop for gas once a week when only going back and forth to work. I just hope it doesn't have the acceleration of a smart car.

It's not a priority project. I believe its being used as an advertising item to show that BRP is up on "green" things.

Last I heard, they do not have a working prototype--just a mock up model.

BRP got lots of money from the Canadian government to finance and research the project.

My guess is when available--it will be big bucks. My guess $40,000 plus.
 
ROTAX has the know-how and the resources to bring out an engine like that ( best one available in the world) - but it will not be only for our Spyders – it’s the future of all (their) vehicles
e.g. ..you can hire electro-skidoos in Finland to drive absolute silent in their nature
here in the Alps (Tyrol) some areas stop the "normal" traffic if the air is not clean enough
in July/August you are not allowed to use a motor-boat in most of our lakes here

(seems its more urgent for us here in Europe .)
 
When we were at Spyderfest Magog a few years ago we heard BRP has to have the hybrid up and running in a certain time period (10 years?) or pay back the Canadian government. At the Owner's Event last year the engineers/designers laughed when we asked how long it would be...then remarked "not any time soon." Hmmm....:dontknow:

Bummer it would had been nice. I would had only fuel up once a week. The rss I am looking at now I will have to fuel up about every two days. My daily commute is about 75 miles round trip. Or do the same mod mr. Orange did on his.

I think it is an interesting, even neat concept but anything closed in is not in the spyder category in my opinion. I think this is more like the "T Rex" which to me is a lot flashier. This concept car will probably appeal to the smart car crowd but I think most folks who buy spyders are buying for fun and adventure. There are plenty fuel efficient cars if that is the goal.
