• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Can-Am DCT?

Hi all,

Is or would BRP Can-Am consider making an actual auto available for the SE?
I was think they could use a dual clutch (DCT) like Honda and Aprilla have.

The one in the Honda VFR1200 DCT is a 6 speed and the DCT in the Aprilla Mana 850 has 7 speeds.

Us SE people still have the option of flicking gears around like we do now on the electric clutch SE.
Though now we could also just put it in "D" and ignore the trans.

Best,
Y

Might as well add a roof and air conditioning.:roflblack:

I like flicking the gears around, it is a part of driving the Spyder.

I did have a 1976 Hondamatic 750. That went into drive and you did not have to do anything else. It sounded like a jet reving up as you increased speed going down the road. That was the only bike I did not like a lot. I did not feel like I was "driving" it.

That's not really fair. I am sure there is a rider base that could benefit from a full auto such as disabled community like myself. Why would you want to deny someone the excitement and freedom that only riding a motorcycle can provide? The whole essence of riding a motorcycle is supposed to be enabling whether it be a sense of freedom or just the thrill of the wind in your face.

It's bad enough that people give Spyder riders sh*t about riding a 3-wheeler rather than a "real" motorcycle. What's worse is that those comments can come from two wheel riders. Everyone should be encouraging of people different than themselves rather than promoting a sense of elitism--especially bikers.

If you wouldn't like a full auto, that doesn't mean there isn't a place or need for it. If it helped someone enjoy the thrill of riding, I'm all for it.

Why not a centrifugal clutch like on a snowmobile? This is a very simple transmission and it can generate a ton of low end torque. I am willing to bet that BRP knows a little bit about this type of clutch design.:doorag:

That's what I was thinking. Seems like they could do that.

CVT transmissions could certainly have been an option. BRP uses them in their Commander 1000 UTV in fact. Belt life may have been an issue; they may have also felt that running up and down through the gears made it feel more like a motorcycle. You'd have to ask them for sure... :dontknow:
BRP will manufacture what they think they can sell the most; designing a rig targeted specifically (?) to disabled riders is just not going to give them the numbers that they want... sorry! :opps:
