We are definitely going with a car tire for the rear. Only reason we put another Can-Am tire on last year was because it was an unexpected replacement on our trip. We're averaging about 16,000/tire using the mfr. tire; hoping to do better next time around with a different brand.

Replaced ours @ 9300 mi with a Hydroedge ordered from Costco around $135. Reckon it'll last at least 3 x the stock one:thumbup::)

While 16K may not be good tire life for an automobile, it is outstanding for a motorcycle. I get twice the mileage out of my Spyder rear tire as I do on my BMW, and the tire is cheaper. I have no complaints whatsoever.

$80 bucks for a Falken ZE912 from EBay; delivered to my doorstep!
The Kenda prices are all over the map! :gaah:

Falken Tire 912

I was going to put a Falken tire on but the tread design was made for two tires side by side Half the tread through the water out and the other half was still. The tire had on one side outside and the other side is inside. So for a rear tire stay away from it for it could cause a problem. I went with a Kumah tire and it was the same price and great tread design.

:2thumbs: That's why there's lots of choices out there!
But can you tell folks that you've got to go check the air pressure in that "Falken rear tire" with a straight face?? :roflblack:

I HAVE NO COMPLAINTS EITHER

I love you Scotty, but I honestly fail to see the logic here.....example My Shelby Cobra roadster gets 18 MPG...My Toyota Echo gets 38 MPG.......should I put a FOUR cylinder engine in the Cobra because the gas mileage is not equal to the Echo ???????? .......Just say'in.......Mike

I'd have to say I agree with Mike on this one, Scotty...since the Spyder doesn't lean like a regular bike, we weren't expecting to have tire wear like a bike. We're expecting a longer lasting tire, therefore the switch to a car tire, which a lot of folks seem to do. We'll see what happens.

No idea what you are talking about;)

I agree with Scotty. I think when a machine is different like the spyder, it is best to stick with the manufacturers recommendation for tires.
If BRP decides to list some aftermarket tires that they feel are an adequate replacement then that would be OK.

Mike............... good luck with that 4 cyl swap into the cobra. :joke:

SOME PEOPLE DON'T GET IT

Dear Mr. Spydee, I think you missed the point !!!!!!, also I guess you have absolutely "NO MODS" that are not " BRP CERTIFIED " on your Spyder......Right ........Mike...:gaah:

Your right. My bikes are both BRP from stem to stern, every nut bolt and washer. I got your point. My point is that the tires are the only contact between the rider and the road, and it is probably better if they are approved by the manufacturer. If a person wants after market pipe, or plugs or windshield etc., go for it. These items if they fail will most likely not put the operator in harms way.
Mike .......relax, I don't think I personally attacked you on anything that warrants -by your text - getting bent.

regards Gerry

PEACE AND LOVE TO ALL

Thankyou Gerry for caring about me, there is so little of that in this world today it's refreshing when it occurs....Really.. And I am quite relaxed...if I was any more relaxed I would be Dead..haha......and I never considered what you said as a personal attack....if I had my response would have been very very different.....Really........Also I have no intention of swapping out my Cobra engine for a 4 banger.....( it would make Bob's wife mad ) :roflblack: :roflblack: :roflblack:......PS...Don't get BajaRon's spark plug wires either ...even tho they are way way better than stock, ...and absolutely do not get "iridium" spark plug's from him either...because they are better also.......And no K & N or Green filter either even tho those are also better.....Or " Elka Shocks " .......or any type of " Risers " .......And custom seats ...we shouldn't forget those .......and Windshields.........I could go on But I think you might at this point actually get the POINT .....WITH MUCH AFFECTION .....MIKE

Actually, I stand corrected. I did purchase some oil filters from Bajaron, and did not have any issue with them, however, there is brp filter in both my bikes now.
The only thing I can say that I purchased aftermarket that was of a better design, than stock was a set of 1987 Ford exhaust manifolds for the 302 in the f-150. After replacing two stock sets due to cracking, the aftermarket set was beefier and was the better option.

The word better is somewhat of a lame descriptor for a product. Better how? Give me hard facts and/or hard numbers.
For example, if an engine gets a dyno run I can see that a particular modification has either been beneficial or not by the curves I see on the printout. Is there hard evidence to say that aftermarket plug wires, air filters and spark plugs make a big difference, or are the products just more inexpensive thereby making them better?

P.S you will most likely be able to buy a 2014 mustang or f-150 with a 4 cyl.

car tires

Oddly enough I just purchased a new Lexus CT200H for my wife this weekend. There was big sticker on the window stating the tires have a useful life of about 20k miles. When I questioned the service manager, he said those tires were specified for the car as to to their low friction and superior handling. When I questioned about replacing with a different tire when these wear out, he strongly discouraged it and handed me a card of a local tire store where I could get the tires cheaper than from the dealer. So it was not about the dealer wanting me to buy tires from him. One would assume that BRP specified the tire they did for performance and safety reasons.

A POSSIBLE ANSWER ?????
