There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Buying Used 2010 RSS?

Looking at a relatively low mile 2010 RSS. Owner did his own maintenance - only oil changes each spring an fall. It only has 7500 miles. He tells me he has NEVER had it in for any service. I had him contact the dealer to confirm which recalls are outstanding. There is only one for the DPS. The bike is in good shape and has a front brake lever installed as well. Would you run given it has never been into the shop? Do Can Am dealers do preinspections? What would those typically cost? Suggestions?

This would be a situation where I would ask to take it into the dealer, have the dealer do a routine service check over, and perform any outstanding service bulletins--or be willing to--after the sale is commenced.

If the RSS is a "good" machine--it would be worth the money spent with the dealer to confirm it.

A five year old machine, never serviced by the dealer, could be very good, or very bad. A little CYA here could go a long way.

Let us know what happens.

The 2010 RSS does not have a "problem child" reputation.

MoreInfo on buying decision

The bike is out of my location and I will have to fly there to pick it up. I will ask owner to have it serviced and recalls performed. Any idea if dealers will do a pre purchase inspection to tell me of any issues? Price on the bike is very reasonable

I would certainly think that a dealer would be willing to do the inspection (of course; for a price!)
AK is right; the 2010 RS models were never a problem child...
Good Luck, and we're waiting to hear what happens next!

Let us know which dealer(s) are in the area. Locals can help with which one to go to.

You should make arrangements with the dealer--not the seller--just to keep things above board. If the seller will not agree--accept that this is not the one for you.

An out of state purchase to buy an unserviced, used, machine could be bad--if the :ani29: is not up to snuff.

Buying Choices

I have contacted the seller to confirm he can take it in for anninspection at my cost.

I will ill keep you posted. My other option I am looking at is a local 2013 STS LTD but it is more money and may be to much bike for what I want. Oh the dilemma of new toys

The 2013 STS LTD is basically the same bike as the 2010 RSS--only newer and with a bit more and different bling on it. The RSS is the bling version of the RS. A couple thousand or so more for three years newer may be worth further consideration.

Check the shocks on the 2010 vs the 2013 STS. The factory shocks on the 2010 are absolute garbage in my opinion after owning a 2010 RS.

What the st and rs are not the same at all and 2013 s had a bunch of problems heat related

Respectfully disagree. Both the RS and the ST are 998's, the frames were modified a bit on the ST and RT to make room for the 1330 engine--which did not happen until 2014. To make it an ST, they added radio, cruise, heated grips and bags are available. It is an RT without a trunk--but still a RS with stuff added.

The heat issues were mainly on the RT model and a fix has been done with new air scoops.

EDIT: I neglected to mention that the ST heat issues were also addressed by BRP and new body panels were provided for them.

And we're off track....

Just to clarify...the RS is the base original spyder. The RSS is a sportier version of the RS. The ST was a new model to bridge the gap between the RS/RSS and the RT which is the big bagger model. Don't spend more than you budgeted for the 2010 is a great roadster get it checked out and you will see it is. Then ryde it home and take us along for the ryde...

I have never had the dealer service my 2011 RS other than new rear tires. I do the maintenance myself and have had zero problems in 11,000 + miles. If this 2010 has low miles, is in good condition, and been reasonably cared for, go for it!

Didn't the 13 st's have recalls to add more air and have the brake reservoirs melt the problems with the 13's were solved with the recalls but buying used one should make sure the updates were done

Fyi sounds ALOT like one in my area found a '10 silver RSS if i can help let me know. I did manage a test ride on it but had redneck mods & rust.

There were a lot of heat mitigation steps taken with these bikes: make sure that all of them were adequately addressed.

2010 RSS Purchase Update

Bike sold before I could get the inspection done. So now back to the drawing board and looking a couple 2012 RSS, the '13 STS and a 2014 RSS. The pricing on the '13 STS (actually a Ltd) is pretty good but it is past due for its 14000 mi service so that is a cost I will need to deal with quickly. I will keep you posted as the hunt progresses
