• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Burning oil.....

Hi,

During the hot summer days, my 2013 ST started to have idling problems after a restart when fully warmed up. i.e. 100 miles on a +80°F day. Happened 10-15 times. I used to give a little bit of throttle for 10 - 15 sec, and all was fine afterward. Last time, after the restart, it died and I restarted it right back. It backfired and started. But it sent a blue pop that smoked everything around. I stopped it, checked the oil, restarted and drove home. About 10 - 12 miles. It was smoking slightly. No error code. Added 1/2 quart of oil....but might have been low before the happening....

Brought it to the dealer, who diag a stuck opened evap valved. He road tested it for 12 miles, and called it fixed. Explained the blue smoke with too rich of a mix.....because of the stuck opened evap valve.

Since then, I did 250 miles and it took more than a quart of oil. ( Amsoil 10W40 metric). Obviously, burning oil. It still puff blue at cold start-up, and when taking off on a corner after a complete stop, especially if I "lug" the engine. ( RPM dropping around 900 - 1000, during clutch release. Yes, SM5)

Am I right to suspect a busted valve seal, or even a broken oil ring ? Because of that backfire?

Thanks in advance for your input on the possibilities. I want to make sure that it is fixed correctly, this time.

(P.S. the spyder is covered by an extended warranty, Cornerstone.)

it started too sound like valve seats , had a chevy do this smoke after it sat a bit , buring off oil from valves , but the back fire , might be timing is out , throwing things outta wac , I am not a pro at spyders , yet that is , will be interesting to see what is the cause of your engine ! hope it isn`t something deep internal ...

Do both.....

What he said :agree: can also do a compression test...if your puffing white/blue smoke at start up then oil is leaking into the cylinders....those test will help determine if you have a valve, rings or head gasket leak....:gaah:
