So I'm coming up on my 2 year/12,000 mile service and reading the shop manual about changing the brake fluid. According to the book changing the fluid and bleeding the brakes can not be done without using BUDS for a part of the bleeding procedure, and again to clear fault codes. Since BRP won't sell the BUDS software and annual keys for it (and I'm not interested in a pirated copy) there is no way to do this job properly other than by an authorized dealer.
The Magnuson-Moss Act as defined by 16 CFR Ch.1 (1-1-03 Edition) § 700.10 Section 102(c). (a) Section 102(c) prohibits tying arrangements that condition coverage under a written warranty on the consumer's use of an article or service {emphasis is mine} indentified by brand, trade, or corporate name unless that article or service is provided without charge to the consumer.
Seems to me this would also apply to any instance in the preventative maintenance schedule which tells you to hook up to BUDS.
Thoughts?
