BRP Travel Cover - Windshield Scratches?

I've noticed that the BRP Travel Cover does not have a soft cloth that covers the windshield like my after-market full cover does. This concerns me because I don't want any scratches on the windshield from the cover. Has anyone ever had a problem with this or is this not a problem. With a brand new 2014 RTL, I may be a little paranoid. :shocked:

Back in 2010 the RTS came with a full cover and it has the soft fabric covering the windshield. I'm kind of surprised that the new ones don't.

I've got the BRP full cover for my 2014RT Limited and have logged many hndreds of miles and NEVER had any issues with windshield scratches.

I've used my BRP Travel Cover on our '14 with no scratches on the windshield. If the windshield is quite dirty I'd be careful putting the cover on and off. When on the road I usually clean the shield at the end of the day anyway and before putting the travel cover on.

I have never had a problem with the travel cover scratching the windshield. I make sure that the side straps are pulled tight.
I have used on low windshield and also high windshield with success. I always raise the windshield to its highest point first to help tighten the cover

Try to remember: the travel cover is pretty much designed for covering the bike while the owner is taking a nap... The chances of anything scratching the windshield are VERY minimal...
(You probably stand a better chance of scratching it while putting it on, or removing it :shocked:...Just be careful!)

Exactly! It's during the putting on and taking off that I'm concerned about. Pulling the cover over the windshield and pulling it off seems like scratching is a real possibility. I'm glad to hear that none of you have had a problem with it. I have a full cover made by CoverMax. The entire cover has a thin, soft cloth lining and the windshield area has a thicker, even softer cloth lining. I was surprised that the BRP Travel Cover - which although a lot smaller, cost about twice as much - has no soft lining at all. But I guess the rubberized inner lining of the Travel Cover is smooth enough to not hurt the windshield.

If a cover can move, like from the wind, it can scratch. I only use a cover at home in the garage to keep the dust off.

Travel Cover

We use our travel cover when we stop for the night and have had no trouble at all , we carry a can of Plexus in the trunk and if the windshields are dirty we clean them before we cover the bikes , that way the windshield is ready the next morning for the ride .

Wife made a windshield slip cover out of flannel material. I slip that over the windshield and then put on the bike cover. Works great. I too also carry a can of Plexus on the bike

Perfect!! Thanks for the great idea. My BMW said not to use Plexus or other similar products on the windshield, but I'm assuming that Plexus has worked fine for you. My Spyder manual says not to use any type of wax or polish on the matt finish such as the Satin Silver on my RT. Opinions on that? I've always used Plexus on my other bikes.

I don't have the mat finish so I don't know about that. However, I have used Plexus spray on my old 2010 and my new 2014 RT windshields since day one. Works great.

On our second set of RT's and have covered the Spyders with the Can Am cover for the past five years with no ill effects.

Key is making certain the windshield is somewhat clean before you pull the cover over it. Removing the cover from a dirty windshield is where the risk is in scratching it.

Plexus is a great product and works well on the Spyder windshield.

I would NOT use plexus on the matt finish. I think it would turn out very badly. On normal glossy paint, no problem.

Those matte finishes should not be polished. Doing so may result in shiny sections on the finish. Speaking with my dealer, I was told that BRP recommends that only their own polish be used on the matte finish, and they no longer offer it for sale. Plexus is great on the windshield and all shiny plastic finishes. It's original application was on aircraft canopies.

Thanks everyone. I just finished a ride and put a t-shirt over the windshield before putting on the cover. It worked great. I feel much more comfortable with the extra protection.
