• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

BRP (tire police)

Questions

I have tried to order tires from both Discount tire and tire rack and was refused. It seems that BRP told them that car tires are not strong enough for motorcycles and the tire must be bike specific so as not to be liable. They have used scare tactics with the tire stores.

Three tries from Discount tire and twice from tire rack. (refused)
Finally decided to change size (215/60/15) and ordered a Michelin Hydroedge. Shipped the next day and no questions asked.
Other SL are using them with no problems,
I will never buy tires from BRP again.

Don't tell them

I suspect the OP might have divulged what he was going to put these tires on. Not saying he did, but it sure looks that way.

We have about 1700 miles on our hydroedge and it is showing no wear at all. Running 28 psi. We did play around with the air shock settings (going lower) to obtain the best handling based upon the differences of the two tires. Bought ours from Amazon for $85 delivered but that was the last ones of them. The cheapest now is $115. Enjoy your tire.

How did you get it mounted?

My Spyder dealer mounted my Michelin HydroEdge (rear). When I had Michelin Defenders mounted on the fronts, I took the wheels off myself and took them to the tire store & they mounted and balanced them for me. They were never told from what the wheels came.

Took mine to the custom trike shop, near me, where I get my state inspections done . . . he had me order the tire and bring it with me . . .

I've ordered several rear tires from Discount Tire Direct and use Paypal and never have offered or been asked for addit info about the use of the tire. :)

One time I ordered from Tire Rack and was asked so I made up something like "its for a home built hot rod". Something like that might have any size you could imagine on it.

:agree: If you're going to tell them that it's for a Spyder; we're not going to have much sympathy for you anymore. :gaah:
Tell them ANYTHING else!

I am quite confident that BRP had nothing to do with your problems in acquiring a tire for your Spyder. The liability in this litigious world is too great for a company to sell you a tire that is not recommended for your vehicle. Most will not sell you an automotive tire if you tell them that you're going to put it on a Spyder.

By the same token, many businesses will not mount the tire for the same reason.

Since automotive tires are quite a bit stronger than the BRP tires and the mounting edge is identical, there isn't any factual reason not to mount one of these tires for these reasons. Rubber compound, tread pattern and traction (wet/dry) are potential reasons that a specific automotive tire is not suitable for the Spyder.

I've purchased tires from both Discount Tire and The Tire Rack for non-recommended applications, no problem. But I didn't tell the what the tires were for.

It isn't BRP.

This really would not be a problem if the Kenda OEM tires were not complete junk.... My front tires failed on my 2014 RT at 8000 miles and the rear tire at 10000 miles. My car tire replacements already have 13000 and 11000 respectively and show no signs of wear. Having said that, it might be better if we drop these continuous threads on this topic and simply go quietly about our business

 But that's some of the best exercise that we get... :bdh:
That... and jumping to conclusions! :D

:agree: with Ron. If BRP would even be doing that kind of "policing" which I doubt due to tire distributors loosing customers, what the OP is assuming is a violation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. However, tire distributors can deny selling a tire(s) if you state on which vehicle it will be used for, but since they are not vehicle manufacturer's, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act does not apply to them and have rights to refuse selling as long as they have it in writing.

Always remembe: "No horse is too dead to beat!" :bdh::bdh::bdh:

BRP is simply NOT behind this conspiracy...
What bargaining chip would they have; that they could tell a Company to NOT sell a tire? :dontknow:
