it all depends on which you prefer more than the quality of either.

:agree: Most of us will put up with lesser quality in a product that we really like whether our liking is due to something real or perceived. What we like is more important than anything else. Most old riders can tell you horror stories about the quality of old English bikes but they put up with them because they really liked to ride them. To a certain extent, I'm the same way about BMW's.

I'd place the Spyder near the bottom of the reliability list, and at the very top of the fun list. But then, the reason I ride is for fun, so........

How much fun can one have with something that is unreliable though, if the Spyder is unreliable?

I know several friends who run Kawasaki KLR dual purpose bikes and they like them a lot.

Would you consider BRP quality to be better then Kawasaki?

Jap quality is hard to beat. But add in the fun factor, the overall ranking is siginificantly changed. If I want reliability in a jet ski, I'd bought Yamahas but instead I am on my 5th Sea Doo. Yes more problems, but nothing I can't handle so far (same with Spyder).

Aside from the recalls that require BUDDS and software/firmware updates, what problems have you found (came up) that you had to deal with yourself?

I maintenance on my Yamaha XT250 dual purpose motorcycle, but never had a break down.

That is what I am afraid of on a Spyder, more then usual break-downs where it puts you on the road side with no option but to call a tow truck.

This has surfaced in previous posts.
I don't sit around & fret that my Spyder is going to break down. I just get on it ride & enjoy. :yes:
If I break down I will deal with it then.

the idea of the spyder is lightyears away from all this (un-intelligent)
2-wheelers (i was lucky to "test" some of the nannys - still alive)
so electronic-helpers : best of the world (in the moment)
engine / rotax : side by side with the japsen
the rest : still not their (japs) quality also lower than BMW´s and europeans
but : if they would produce it for a longer periode then the "normal" bikes where all the updates could be fit on the 08 modell ... the spyder would win !
and the "sum of all" is for this price absolut ok
