Didn't know about this, and quite frankly it surprised me. Not sure what the snowmobile visors are stamped, but for US highway use, they should be marked "Meets (or exceeds) VESC-8". That is the marking on modern motorcycle visors. If your sled visor says this, it is legal. If it says something else, or is unmarked, it is not legal, and may or may not be safe. I suspect it is just a matter of what test it went through. In days gone by, when I was racing sleds, I often shattered motorcycle faceshields just by bumping them in cold weather. The snowmobile shields did not do this. To me, that says they are tougher, but they probably weren't marked the same.My understanding is that they do not meet the same impact standards as visors intended for street use.
