• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

BRP Helmets

My understanding is that they do not meet the same impact standards as visors intended for street use.
Didn't know about this, and quite frankly it surprised me. Not sure what the snowmobile visors are stamped, but for US highway use, they should be marked "Meets (or exceeds) VESC-8". That is the marking on modern motorcycle visors. If your sled visor says this, it is legal. If it says something else, or is unmarked, it is not legal, and may or may not be safe. I suspect it is just a matter of what test it went through. In days gone by, when I was racing sleds, I often shattered motorcycle faceshields just by bumping them in cold weather. The snowmobile shields did not do this. To me, that says they are tougher, but they probably weren't marked the same.

wore my snowmobile helmet for the first time today in the snow on the spyder.might not be for street use but is 100% safer than my shoei in the cold wet weather. It did NOT fog up at all.and is a lot warmer. Will be back to the shoei when it warms up......:2thumbs:

Someone posted link to jay leno garage video. I watched it and learned a couple things: a) dropping a helmet offthe bike onto pavement does not weaken the helmet. b) Arai makes a very tough helmet that took a beating in an accident involving professional racer and the guy's brain was ok. I ordered the helmet off ebay and it cost $570 but I think it's worth it since a mind is a terrible thing to waste Dan Quayle said so.

i have the scorpion exo-700 sunburst yellow and black, matches the spyder well, $225. feels good to me, but it's the only one iv'e ever used , so i wouldn't know the difference!

Does the GSX-2 have a built in sun visor?

Sorry I can't really help you John, this is more of a public service announcement. ;) . A bit of archeology never really hurts, especially if the info is still current, but while there may be someone who can answer your question still around, any helmet bought back when the previous posts in this thread were put up will probably be a bit past keeping your head as safe as a younger helmet would/should....

The post immediately prior to yours was put up in mid December 2008, and the post you quoted was from a couple of days earlier! It always pays to :oldpost:

Still, I hope someone can help you.

Cool. Thanks Peter. I was just shooting a shot in the dark lol. I saw that particular helmet for sell on ebay as a new helmet. I have been trying to find an xs helmet for 1 of my little riders and figured at the price, as a new helmet.
it might not be a bad deal.

The foam and liner tends to brekadown over time even if it isn't worn. In my opinion you should not wear a helmet that old. manufacturers recommend replacing a helmet after 5 years of use and not using a helmet older them about 7 years after manufacture date.
