BRP Drivers backrest question

Hello,
I ordered a 2015 RT limited and want to install the BRP optional seat back. I just need the back rest right? Is All the locking stuff under the seat already? I understand this is the same set up that the 2014 uses.

Take Care,
Louie

Watching it

I'll be watching this post as I am in the process of buying a 2014 and I'm considering the backrest.

Almost Right

The mounting hardware comes with the Backrest. The installation you can do yourself. Good luck and enjoy

Check on Ebay for BRP OEM backrest for Can Am Spyder... that's where I found mine for 2014 RT Limited ... there are 2 places that discount them... can save some bucks..

Try before you Buy

If you haven't already, I would try one out at your dealer before you buy one. They are, as I'm sure you know, very expensive. They are not adjustable and for me because of my personal posture, not at all comfortable. You might find them uncomfortable also and might be better off with a Utopia (yes you have to cut into the seat but that shouldn't be a problem) or you may end up getting an after market saddle that will include a back rest. Ultimate Seats for example has an adjustable back rest.

:agree:
I spent the $530 for the backrest and never quite felt comfortable with it.
Ended up buying an Ultimate seat w/ backrest and found it to be alot more comfortable and of course adjustable!
Wish I would have tried one out before buying and saved the $530 and used it towards the Ultimate seat purchase.

Two Driver's Backrests

Remember, there are different backrests for the stock seat and Comfort Seat.

I have the BRP comfort seat with the backrest. (already installed when I purchased) I like it but it is very over priced in MHO. The 2014 catalog lists at $449. It is worth less than $200. Check Ebay and Amazon.

I have the BRP (non adjustable backrest). At first it felt uncomfortable but not being one to rush into spending more I gave it time. Now with 25000 miles on it, it feels like it was custom made for me.. It just needed a little break in time. no question you can buy them on eBay at discount

Although the backrest is non-adjustable, you can adjust the bottom part of the bracket with washers to tilt the back rest slightly one way or the other.:thumbup:

An alternative to consider is the Utopia back rest. It installs through the notch in the seat and is adjustable. Costs around $250. I went with that on my 2014 and am very happy with it.

...:gaah:I put a Utopia backrest on my 2014 RT and didn't have to CUT anything........The plug that covers the OEM HOLE is the only thing that needs to be trimmed for neatness. But you use the Factory hole for the Backrest Bracket...................Mike

When I bought Mr. Cognac I added a BRP backrest. I had a Utopia on my 2011 and liked it. The 2014 BRP backrest was uncomfortable as it is not adjustable, as mentioned earlier. I ordered a BRP comfort seat in chocolete and the dealer traded me a chocolete backrest even....I will get all of this installed next week. I rode today without the backrest and was uncomfortable, more so than with the BRP backrest. I hope the comfort seat gives me more room, they say 2", and the old back will feel better with the BRP. If not, I will bite the bullet and get an Utopia seat with the adjustable backrest. I have an Utopia backrest on my Wing and it is very comfortable, although a different installation method and adjustable.

As I get older, my back bothers me without a comfortable backrest....I will go until I find the right combination. It is hell getting old.....

Would like a backrest for the F3, but BRP prices are 3-4 times what it's worth. Will wait on aftermarket to change the game.

It is hell getting old, But .............................................................the alternative is worse. Enjoy every day as if it was your last.

I am going too, Joe. If the next 82 are as good as the last 82, it will be a wild ride....ha ha :spyder2:

I stand corrected. Thank you.

Utopia's are great. Had one on my Wing and my Venture.

Keep staring at the lawn from the proper side of the roots , and everything is GREAT! :2thumbs:

Thanks all for your opinions, I appreciate the advice. I may go with the Utopia and save some bucks and like the adjustable feature.

Thanks again,
Louie

I just installed the Utopia on my 2014.. It comes with good directions. Install was easy and took about 15 minutes. But.... you do have to cut away at the foam underneath the removable seat plug to make things easier to push down to the base of your seat. You technically do not cut the seat or vinyl, just the foam underneath as per the directions.

Yes, it is comfortable and it is well worth the price paid.
