BRP CARES - Parts list for adding cruise control to base model?

While at Spyderfest, I came under the spell of an F3. I have a plan for the bike and really wanted the gloss black frame. Only way to get that is with a black or white base model. I spoke at length with the CanAm guys about the F3 before making a selection. They told me if I purchased the base model, it was only a matter of a couple hundred in parts to enable/install the necessary components to have cruise control on a base model. All programming and most wiring etc is already there.

Can BRP Cares or anyone help me with a list of parts to order?

If it is the same as the ST and I would bet it is. You just have to change out to right hand handlebar switch assembly to one from the F3-S.

You can actually mod the switch for free if you are even a little bit handy. At least that is what I did on my ST

The opening on the handlebar is there, with a cap on it where the cruise switch goes. If its just the switch, I need to pursue the parts manual and order that part, hopefully available separately.

Guess no matter what, that is one part that would be needed anyway so may as well start with that and find out if it was that easy.

I think this might be what you need to find the parts. Just drill down the left side menu until you get to the F3-S. I think it is in 07 - Steering:

I did this on my RS, the entire right hand switch assembly was ~$420.00. Now granted that's an expensive switch; however if you compare it to the next level up of bike it looks pretty cheap way to install your cruise control. Take the old one off, route and plug in the new one and you're good to go:yes::yes::yes::thumbup::thumbup: About one to two hours work:clap::ohyea:nojoke

Cruise control mod

I think my buddy HCHays modded his control to have the almost free cruise control, on his 13 rs. Look in DIY for the write up. It might all be the same .

ADDING ELECTRICAL THINGS ETC.

This winter I had my 14 RT practically dis-assembled .......I found a lot of electrical connectors etc that weren't connected to anything ( I have the BASE MODEL )......I am sure the Spyder is like most vehicle's made today.......ie. THE SAME , if you order the high end model , you get the PARTS that the wiring is already there for..................This is pure economics from a manufacturers standpoint, making one standard WIRING HARNESS is way less expensive than having a few different ones, and trying to match them up on the assembly line ...............JMHO.........Mike

Any progress on that "parts list"?

There are no parts for the Left or right side grip assemblies. You must purchase them as assemblies. That being said, you can replace the Right side assembly with an upscale assembly with the cruse function controls. Keep in mind you should maintain the same series and year of Spyder. These are available through your local Spyder Dealer or MC Junk Yard. Shop around.

i'm curious, why is it more expensive for the base model housing?

710004104 RH Switch Housing Package STD - 402.99 USD

Actually you should be asking why the housing with the cruise control in it is cheaper than this housing for any of the spyders, cruise or not.......Grab a bargain while you can.
