• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Broke key off in ignition

I use a coping saw blade on broken keys all the time, office desks and file cabinets mostly but concept is the same, it is small enough to fit between key and cylinder and has sharp teeth on one side and smooth on backside, usually you get almost to the end and you can grab with needle nose

good luck

If the key is not turned when it broke, use an air compressor and an air chuck to blow and lift the key out.

Anyone know of an easy way to fish out a broken off key in my ignition. The seat release lever seized up on me, and after being stranded at the gas station for about 30 mins, I got a little "physical" and broke off the key. Dealer wants to put a whole new ignition on it for $400 bucks, im sure he would!!! There are no locksmiths in the area.

Get some WD-40 and two strong paper clips...spray the WD-40 in the ignition don't spray to much ( don't drown it out) then take the paper clip and bend it to a U shape and close it in to form a little grip kind of like chop sticks the other paper clip you need to bend it straight your going to need this to hold back the little clip in the ignition that keep tension on the key( this is what keeps your key from flying out when riding ..now go to work..take your time the WD-40 will make it come out easy..when all is lost well you can take the ignition off yourself and take it out...good luck!!

super glue didnt work

Well I gave super glue a shot, just a dab on the end of the key and stuck it in the ignition and held it in place for a few minutes or so. Didn't work. Now after inspecting the key, it has multiple stress fractures, so any more bending or twisting it is probably going to break even more. It looks like only about 3.8 of an inch is stuck in the ignition, as the key broke off on the thinnest part of the key.:banghead:

from the fisch it looks like the switch is only mounted with 2 hex head screws, maybe you could remove the switch and shake or blow the piece out with compressed air.

broken key off in ignition

Here are 2 thoughts on the issue, perhaps you are able to use the broken piece and still energize the bike, no surgery required ( will have to be done sooner or later ) or do not be so aggresive with the frunk opening that you twist the key off. A little lube goes a long way, with the weather and rain having a way to sneak into a supposedly covered key hole. Good luck.

Broken Key Removal...

I just went through this... I broke my only key off in the ignition switch... I tried hemostats, very small needle nose pliers, wires on the side, etc., no luck... I took the switch apart and once I had the barrel in my hand, I was able to get a thin knife blade between the barrel and the last "dog" and eventually (like four hours later) I was able to work the broken key out of the barrel... I then super glued the two pieces of the key together and took it along with the two blanks I bought online to the local Ace Hardware... They were able to clone the chips and with great care, cut the keys to match my lock/barrel... Total outlay, $40...
