Brake squeak fix?

I was reading a thread last year and someone suggested spraying crc brake clean and crc brake quiet directly on the rotorand didn't even have to take the pads off. Many people have told me this was a bad thing to do and never spray it on on the rotor. Members on that thread said it worked. :dontknow:

What does everybody think?

I don't think that spraying CRC brake clean on the rotors is bad but CRC brake quiet might be. I thought that was the stuff they were applying to the backs of the pads. :dontknow:

That's what I thought to but he said he sprayed the crc brake quiet on the rotor and he thought it filled in the small grooves. Not sure either because people were saying it worked. I always understood you put the brake quiet on the back of the pads.

I certainly wouldn't use CRC Disk Brake Quiet in that way. The material will cause severe problems on the rotors. It is a rubbery substance, in a squeeze bottle, designed to insulate the pad against vibration, which causes squealing. Their directions are:

CRC Disc Brake Quiet dampens the vibrations that cause disc brake noise. It is an elastomeric polymer product , applied to the back of disc brake pads to act as a vibration and sound absorbing layer.

CRC does make a spray that can be applied directly to the rotors to prevent squeeks. It is called De-Squeek. This is the imperfection filling chemical. These are the diections for that material:

CRC De-Squeak prevents brake noise before it occurs. Metallic bonding formula fills grooves and imperfections in friction surfaces that commonly cause squeaks and squeals. Use CRC De-Squeak on new, freshly cut (turned) or existing brake rotors and drums. CRC De-Squeak is safe for use on all types of brake systems, including disc, drum and ABS. Prevents rust and oxidation build up.

bdspyder, if your brakes squeak then why don't you just change the pads to the newer ones that BRP have issued that eradicate this problem?

I just got mine done at the dealer and no more brake squeal.... for the time being. :2excited:

I hope the new pads was all I need. They fixed it under warranty. We'll see how they hold up over the next few months.

Brakes

I just had dealer install new brake pads last week and they were growling before I got out of Danville. Rode two hundred mile last Saturday and good brakes but still growling when lightly applying brakes. Then wife went to visit her parents and when she left the parking brake light stayed on solid-red and "brake failure" crossed the dash panel.
On the way to Danville this morning bike went into limp-mode and read "BP5 failure". Shop wanted to keep bike since I wanted the second service[3000mile] done also.
The limp-mode happened once before for the same "BP5 failure" before when we were going to the dealer for a Polar Bear ride that morning, so they checked the bike and said battery cables were lose BUT????????? its happened again this morning
Any Ideas??????????HELP
Dealer has sold very few Spyders so techs not experienced on Spyders that much. There was a lot of head scratching before I left and said they would call BRP! They did give me a ride home[about 30 miles] and said they would come and pick me up when bike is fixed. First rate company!!!

:yikes:did you get the new pads or did they have some in stock

I wonder if you have multiple brake problems or one other (electrical) problem that is manifesting itself in these various brake failure faults. It has been noted that one misbehaving piece of electronics can mess with the canbus system showing up as totally unrelated, bogus faults. :dontknow:

As far as the brakes growling, are the rear brakes dragging, maybe caused by an improperly adjusted parking brake? Maybe one of the brake calipers is a bit loose causing some weird vibration and growling when applied. Is the parking brake partially engaged causing the parking brake light to stay on? :dontknow:

Another thought, check your brake fluid level. In order to change pads the pistons are pushed back into the calipers. Some techs remove brake fluid so it won't overflow, or if it has been topped off previously, it will overflow. The Spyder is very sensitive to brake fluid level.

I checked the brake fluid and it seems fine (good idea). It seems to be just my front brakes squealing. My local dealers are aware of new pads but don't know more than that. They said they haven't heard anything and don't know when they'll be available.
Wildbill -- That sucks :yikes: go in for a brake job and leave with all those other problems. That's ironic all those things happened when you got new pads.
Let me know what they said the problem was when you get it back.

Thanks Scotty for looking and writing all that info about the brake quiet. Im going to look into that De-Squeak. Never heard of that.
Thanks:2thumbs:

will do!

It WORKS :2thumbs::2thumbs::2thumbs:
I don't know for how long; only put 100 miles on it so far but no squeak.
I cleaned the rotor with brake clean then lightly sprayed the De-Squeak on the rotor where the pad meets the rotor and no where else. Let it sit for a little bit then drove around. Worked immediately.
Just be careful when spraying not to get it on anything else. Cover up the black struts. I got a little on it from my hands -- freaked out for a second :yikes: then got it off with clorox cleanup and scrubbing.
Very easy fix without tearing down the brake system. Good til my new pads come in.
Thanks to all who had positive, helpful advice.
