Brake pedal position?

Anyone else here feel that the brake pedal is too high? You have to actually lift your leg up off the peg to apply the brake. My wife just had her floorboards installed today and the brake pedal position is still odd. My plan is to shorten the brake rod some. It's easy enough to cut it and have it re-welded for a shorter reach. (Yes, we do already have the shortest rod for position A)

Mine is not really to high - I can rotate my toe left and up a little to engage it, don't have to lift my foot. Maybe it is just my foot:dontknow:

But I have read that others think it is to high.

Just make sure that doing that will not affect the travel for max emergency braking....I'm sure sponsors will come up with a solution soon. I modified my pedals but if not an option try making a spare...:thumbup:

In what way did you modify your pedal/footpeg? I need to move my brake forward 1 more inch. 6'4" Left side easy, semi auto, Thanks

left me feeling the "reach" for the brake was excessive. The response from the BRP team was vague. I sent you a PM earlier. I barely missed you at M-S today. I think I want to get the foot boards as well.

With my new 2014 RTL I also feel that the brake pedal is higher then it was on my 2011 RTL. I am having to relearn to pick my foot up then down on the pedal vice sliding it over to the pedal and then down. Not sure if it just the way the stock floor board slopes down were my other floorboards were straight.

The distance between pegs and brake is much better and closer than the distance between floorboard and brake. I don't feel comfortable at all with floorboard for that reason

Problem was the pedal on the RS was short as was the park brake. I made an extension on both. In your case you need to extend the pedal forward.

I am in the same position as you. Have to lift my foot up to brake. I am waiting to get more warm weather so I can ride more to see it I can get really comfortable with braking before I do any mods. 2014 RTL.

My father is having the same problem with his brake pedal on his new F3. I see what seems to be an adjustment screw at the tail end of the brake bar. I want to adjust it, but it his new toy, and I am not messing with it until I get his blessing. He is coming over in the morning, and I will see what we can get done. when I know something I will post.

This was a huge concern for me when I did a test ride on my dealer's demo. The demo bike was set at one postion shorter then I ordered. I am 5'11" with a 33" inseam on blue jeans. I used the fitting bike at the dealer and the delivered Spyder was perfect for me. I have forward controls on the Harley and the first time I rode it after being on the new Spyder, I was amazed at how much higher my knees are on the Harley. I never noticed it when I had the RSS.

I often take my feet off of the pegs on the Harley on long rides and straighten my legs. When I do that, I end up resting the back of my legs about 5-6 inches above my heel on the pegs.

On the F3, it's about an inch or two above my heel when I do the same thing. That is a huge difference.

Having my legs almost straightened out more to start with also helps a lot in cornering as it if less stress on my knees.

From your description (please correct me if I am wrong) it seems like she might need to move the peg and brake assembly forward and not back.

Maybe it is just me, but it seems that the UFit system is set up in a way that the best leg fit is to move the foot pegs just a little to far forward and then take them back a notch. That way you put all the corner stress on you strongest muscles and that lets you relax your shoulders when steering.

Let me know how much you cut off F3S brake rod to lower brake pedal closer to BRP boards.
I tried sliding BRP foot-boards on # 4 pos up to #5 pos but that was too far & brakes would not work that close to foot-boards.
So brake rod moving 1 1/2" forward was too much.
Trial disconnecting end of brake pedal rod letting pedal go forward down closer to foot- boards (about 1" travel clearance is plenty).

Cut out section & have it welded back up.
Here are photos of TourEase mini floorboards I mounted on F3S in #4 pos.
You can see there is 1" of clearance from bottom of brake pedal rubber to mini boards; which was plenty of clearance!!
I took mini boards off because it raise my feet up about 1 1/2"; They probably would have fit your wife in perfect brake pos for her!
I installed BRP foot-boards & they are too low& brake pedal too high now.
I almost missed brake pedal first stop after BRP boards were installed.
You can see by the side view photos the difference.

When I ride . . . .

. . . . my heel kind of hangs on the peg and the brake pedal is at the ball of my foot - it is perfect! There is about a quarter inch gap between my foot and the pedal and I can brake in an instant - there is no lifting my foot and stepping on the brake - it is like the brake is a part of my foot.

And, as Chris mentioned, it really helps in the corners to stand on the peg - all that takes is just straightening out my legs at the knees - it feels completely natural and automatic.

If traffic and the road is clear, I slide my foot over, straighten my knees, and my heel rests comfortably on the peg for a little stretch.

I have a 30" inseam and the F3 pegs are at the standard out of the box setting. ( position 3, I think )

The foot, peg, and brake pedal position on the F3 is incredible and I think it is one of the best safety features of the bike.

I had floorboards on my ST-S. They were OK, but I would never consider putting them on the F3. Yes, I know some have and that is their choice and style, to me, they would never be used and in the way.

I'd be remiss if I didn't say that it's not a good idea to do that with such an important part of the bike.

If you don't like the position of the brake pedal and/or the foot peg the UFIT system has different length rods for the brake pedal and there are 5 positions for foot peg placement. This only applies to F3 models. Just my attempt to help. Good luck.
