Brake Pedal Extension for the 2014 RT

As I mentioned in this thread http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/showthread.php?88597-Newbie-in-South-West-VA starting at post # 17 I hate the factory brake pedal so I fabbed up an extension. So far I'm a very happy camper. With the factory setup I was not able to keep my heel on the floor board when braking. I had to lift my leg, move it inwards and then down on the pedal but the brake modulation was poor at best with the heel off the floor board, I like to be able to use my toe with the heel on the floor or peg and just be able to squeeze the brake pedal. With this extension my foot is now further forward and I can just pick up my toe to get to it. Just did a little back road ride, so far the results are very promising.

Interesting. Certainly shows different riding positions. I guess my years of riding dirt bikes has me still on the balls of my feet. I often ride the RT with heels rested on passenger floor boards and balls of feet on the main floorboard. Since I tend to grip the tank I don't have a concern about applying the brake.

I will say though that the brake flush and bleed last week made the brakes work a million times better. No more vague soft squishy pedal as what came from BRP.

Wanted to add, you may verify the added weight does not prevent the CC from engaging. Could require re engineering the return spring.

:congrats:  :firstplace:

Will you be putting this into production??

Bob

No plans on mass producing this. Potential liability is not worth it to me. If anyone else wishes to do it feel free to copy the idea. I'll be happy to share how I made it.

I did add an extra return spring to make sure the brake light went off. It doesn't show in the pics.

This is the oversized Brake Pedal that is sold by TricLed, i have used these on several Spyders and really like them.

.......Pics can be deceiving ....have you made sure you can't bottom the pedal onto the floorboard......I also made my own alum.boards but my pedal can go past the board!!!!....Mike

Let me add that I did not in any way alter the OEM braking system, all systems will continue to function as designed by BRP. The extension I made simply bolts to the existing brake pedal in the existing bolt holes. Think about it this way, I'm the crash test dummy on this one, I don't consider myself to be dumb and getting hurt or dead is not on my list of things to do. :)

.:yikes:........Sam, I think the concerns here are not with your Brake Pedal, but with jerpinoy's !!!!!!......Mike

Sam Mac, why not share the entire mod. Let the group know where to purchase the spring and how it was installed. Seeing the pedal is cool but without the spring misleading and maybe dangerous.

In regards to the guy with diamond plate floorboards, they look great, and you can ride in front.

Sorry but I have no idea where the spring came from, it was something I had laying around. This whole thing was made with stuff I had in the shop. I'll give the build details after I'm sure it is reliable. I don't want people running out and copying something that could be a problem.

There was a recent thread about adding a return spring to the system... The poster of the thread added a connection from the connecting rod (down underneath everything that you can see...), and ran a spring to a connection on the exhaust header (I think!)
Let's go see if we can find that thread!

No problem with that. Sadly, around here it seems there is two concepts...keep it entirely oem stock since Can Am engineers know best, or some people make mods or install mods that work well.

Downside to installing mods is when either improper installation occurs or in this case small details are omitted and others may follow but not accomplish all the steps, it can get ugly.

All the best with it.

Did a little ride on the Park Way today. Had some A$$ hole coming in the opposite direction pull across my lane in a Chevy pick up to get to a dirt turn off on my side of the road and then stop with 1/2 of his truck sticking out into my lane and a car coming the other way so I got to try out just how good the brakes are on a Can Am. Lets just say the Can Am brakes are damn impressive and my brake pedal extension worked just fine. I did give the driver of the truck the 1 finger salute as I missed his sorry A$$. Other than that I had nice relaxing ride.
