• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

:mad: Has anyone ever heard of the rear brake pads worn down to the ROTOR, which is now metal to metal on a 2012 Spyder RT with 8,000 miles on the odometer.....???????? I was just told this to me by my Spyder mechanic. NOT covered by warrantee as it is a "wear item"....!! Thank you for the input.!!:banghead:
 
These bikes DO wear the rear brakes quickly... :shocked:
But that seems to be extreme! :gaah:
My guess, is that the pads were dragging due to some "stiction... " nojoke
The good thing about this; they're only about fifty bucks or so, and can be replaced even by a moron like me!

Mostly city riding?

I'm north of 10k and still have 80% life on original pads.
 
2011 RTS SE5, replaced rear brakes when replaced all tires at 12,800 miles. The dealer said I still had half on the fronts.
 
Pretty much rule of thumb, rears wear at twice the rate of the fronts. Most get 10~15K from a set of rear pads but it varies.

Sounds like you have issues beyond the normal wear rate.

If you've put steel on steel you may need a new rotor.

But you need to figure out why you're having such a short life span before you put new brake parts on or they may not last any longer than the last set.
 
I would contact BRP Customer Care. While brakes are normally considered to be a wear item, that is premature wear. I'd see if BRP would cover the costs (or split them) and aim your tech toward finding the cause.
 
My first rear pads lasted 17k, my second set last just 5K using the EBK version. I went back to factory on the back, the jury is still out on the fronts.
 
Really..!!!

need to have it checked. Se5's tend to wear faster than the sm5's and ryding styles play into it as well. But with all the variables this seem to soon. I have 14,000 on RS2012sm5 and still good and we ryde double up and agressive. I do use the brake a lot less than most but the nanny likes to use them quite a bit...:roflblack:

I want to thank everyone that gave me some input on my problem. I am going to call BRP customer care for their input. My pads (with a discount) cost me $37.00 but, like I said my rotor was shot and that's going to cost me $230.00...!!! Thank You all again....!!
 
We have a 2011 RTS/SE5 and our rear pads were shot at 9K. The mechanic showed us the pads after he replaced them and the thickness left was less than the thickness of a credit card. We got very lucky in finding it when we did.
 
Didn't you get a Code?

My rears have been replaced twice; both times I got a C1282 code (faulty brakes)...although the second time I got the code every part related to brakes was checked or replaced before it was discovered to be thin pads on the rear.
 
When I first got my Spyder I drove (I thought) with my foot poised over the brake pedal, to be ready for any fool cager. Turns out I was riding the brake and burning them... so examine this possibility in your own situation. Luckily, another (HD) rider corrected me very quickly and now I know to avoid the pedal until needed. Since then, I've seen another ryder do the same thing.

Also, I downshift at much higher speeds than the nanny does, and don't need to brake for a stop-sign until I'm down to first gear. But I'm going to check my pads today! (Recently rolled up 10K miles...)

Recently had the rear pads replaced, worn out at 15k miles which I thought was premature. Evidently that's normal mileage. The rotor should be covered under warranty, I would think at that low mileage. Wouldn't hurt to try. Good luck! :banghead:
 
REAR BRAKES

I've got 17 K+ and 19 K + on mine and brakes are still OK .......But plan to get a better look now that they are in the CAVE :yikes: :roflblack: :roflblack:....Mike :thumbup:

Rotors are not covered. They are a wear item. Especially if you're metal to metal with the brake pads.

Mileage varies with brake pads like most wear items. If you do a lot of stop and go you're pads will wear a lot with few miles. If you ride the brake pedal, even slightly, you're pads will wear very quickly.

It is also quite common for people to replace pads that still have a lot of miles left on them.
