• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Brake light failure codes

Changed my taillights to LEDs last night haven't picked up load resistor yet but gave it a try. It went into limp mode as I expected but what a strange array of codes

I got a vcm communications failure code
A abs Pump failure code
And a vcm message failure code
It looks like they emulate major vcm failures to force ECM into limp mode

Anybody else look at the codes with a brake light out

Cascading faults are common on this system. BUDS can tell the order of your faults, but my guess is that the first one was the VCM comm fault. Without a brake light signal going to the VCM (or one out of limits), the Spyder can't differentiate between blown brake lights, a wiring fault, or a loose connector. Without the right information to the VCM, it shuts down the ABS and assumes it cannot do the rest of its job, thus the remaining faults. I have no idea why they couldn't have just made a brake light warning, without limp mode, but this is they way they tied it in and programmed it, so we must work with what we have.

I switched my taillights to LEDs using LI1157RCZ bulbs from Amazon.

They're brighter than stock and they don't trigger any codes. I've had them on for over 8,000 miles now with no problems.

:agree: You can get them at Pep Boys 2 Pack for $24.99 or on line.
Pilot Automotive makes them!

Do you have those led's installed on your SE5 and they work OK? The reason I ask is that I've tried a pair of 13w super bright ones and also a few others and even with resisters I kept getting error codes.

They are superbright LEDs 4 watt 1157s. I'm gonna put a 6 ohm power resistor so they will draw 24 watts
More than the 21 watts that a 1157 filament draws

I was just surprised at the failure code sequence

It just pretends the vcm is dead
