There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Brake Failure

So I got this brake failure flashing on control panel. Brakes work, tho. Searched forum and found that I should check brake fluid level, top off. That I did. Still "brake failure". Anything I should look at before taking it to the shop? Any and all advice is appreciated.

mmmm ! most likely what every one might suggest , is bleed your brakes system , and check the pads , <---- would be my starting points , before it goes into a shop !

:agree: What error codes are being thrown around, when the warning light is flashing?
(Hint: you'll have to pull up the codes; they won't display by themselves...)

Top off fluid

When you say topped off fluid, did you go to the upper marks? I found ypu may need to go just a touch over the full line. Add in small increments.

Well....

did you ride the brake...like ryde with your foot on the pedal..?? then there is the brake light switch, the brake light bulbs, the pads and the fluid. Was any work done like rear tire change where someone may have messed with ABS...Things to check :gaah:

I had that six times this week when I doing some other chores on the bike. In addition to the above, Step on the brake pedal till it hits the stop, you will hear two clicks, one for the brake light switch, then another when you hit bottom (on my RT, the floorboard breaks loose.) This cleared the fault and I was able to go on. Also, if you have the key on, turn it off and leave it off until the system shuts down (20 or so seconds) before re-powering it up.

Thanks

Thanks for the input. I'm working today but will check out all the suggestions tomorrow.
I will post any further news.

If you can find an eyedropper: they work really well for fine-tuning the brake fluid levels.
And they do it without any spillage!

Report

So I pulled the code, it's c1282. As I read it, there is low pressure in the brake line. I stomped on the brake and heard nothing, no clicks etc. (Although, I am slightly hearing impaired.) I'm thinking I'll go up to the shop and see what they think. The brakes still work so I'm not real worried.

First time I ever pulled a code successfully!

I had new brake pads (from Baja Ron) put on 2 or 3 thousand miles ago. Last year I got a new tire. That's the only "recent" work done.

Any other thoughts are more than welcome.

Low brake pressure indicated you need to have the fluid flushed. Old fluid gets contaminated with water and becomes compressible. Fresh fluid, bleed brakes, clear the code. Should be all fixed up.

Your 2010 is way overdue for brake fluid flush if its not been done. Should be done every 2 years.

Follow Up

So, I took my Spyder to the shop, they flushed the brake lines etc and the tryke works flawlessly. Beautiful weather here in Michigan. I spent a lot if it being ill, because among my many medical issues, there were no cardiac disorders. So now I got one - atrial fibrillation.

It felt really good to get on the :spyder: even if it was only 30 minutes. Tomorrow will be another ryde. I hope.

Happy holidays to all my Spydering brothers and sisters.
