• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Brake Failure light

Well, back in Jan. when I got my one ride in during that bad weather and snow, my brake failure light came on. I was hoping it was just a glitch. I got home and added brake fluid hoping that would be that. Well, the stinking weather has been so bad that I haven't had a chance to ride until this week. What glorious weather we finally got for Feb. I did a test ride on Sunday, I rode to work on Mon and Tuesday and still that stupid brake failure light and scrolling message just wouldn't go away. I finally broke down and took it to the dealership on Wed. knowing I was going to miss some more good riding days. But better to get it fixed now than when it is really nice. I got a call on Friday that it was ready and sure enough my brakes needed to be replaced. I don't think all of them really needed it but one of my front pads was truly down to the metal. There were a lot of gouges in the other pads as well. Here are some photos, not sure how well they turned out. But you can definitely tell that one pad was in danger mode. That may also explain, the horrible grinding sound I was getting when I put on my brakes.

I think the rear brakes could have lasted much longer but when you consider the cost of labor and another trip to the dealership, it was easier to just have him replace everything at once.

We knew you rode hard, but now we have evidence that you stop hard, too! :joke: Glad you got that taken care of. Now, if the weather begins to cooperate, we can all get on the road again. We'll have to wait for this next ice/snow storm to pass, though.

Similiar problem. ):

Similiar problem with my 08 SM5. I have an intermittent brake failure light/display reading. Had it in the shop for 2-weeks. They thought it was the brake fluid sensor and replaced it but that has not corrected the problem, although it does not come on as often. No strange brake notices or anything. Anti-lock brake work fine. Anybody else have this problem?

:congrats: You win the worst looking brake pad I've ever seen on a Spyder award.:yikes: :firstplace:

I had this same symptom with my RT. Called my dealer and they said to check the brake fluid level. It was borderline low. I added maybe an oz. of brake fluid. The brake failure/light display has not came on since.

Yeah, I have had to add brake fluid a few times. Even if it gets a little low you will get the brake failure message. It is always the first thing I check. Of course as you can see by the condition of my brakes, this time that was just not the case.

mine did the same thing but i wasnt dropping it off when it hit almost 60 here ...this is my second time seeing brake warning on so i just picked up all new pads and if it warms up a bit ill put them in ... these are 3rd gen pads did you notice any squeaking deb

Actually, Deb, the two are probably related. As the pads wear, more fluid is drawn out of the reservoir. As the fluid is drawn out, the indicator will signal "Low".

I think they must be Jaime, the squeal is gone and the new brakes are working pretty good. For the one day I got to use them. The snow is back today.

Thanks Dude, that makes sense. It does seem like I have had to had brake fluid a little too often lately. I didn't know about them drawing more fluid whne they are getting lower.
