• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

BR-1 has company :(

Shop til you drop..

I tend not to wait for dealer who can't maintain stock (for whatever reason) and do my own shopping. Brake pads are available in many places as are tires etc. There are a lot of people stocking such items to sell on E-bay Amazon etc. To me the extra expense is worth not having to wait. I check other dealers nation wide and many after market places with an amazing amount of success. Just my way...hate to miss a ryde...:2thumbs:

man i wish you would have seen mine and BR1 posts before going to Kelly s house of crap BRP service

i hope you got your bike out of there good luck with it took me 5 weeks to get my wheel bearing for mine when i did pick it up i had no e break cable installed they lost it

after 6 months and them having their BRP inventory removed i went to Pharr tx an got one put on in a couple days after they ordered it

only draw back i paid for it at STS and had to pay for it a second time down there so im out some 195 parts and labor even asked BRP rep i was working with to get my bike back and they told me to contact Kelly well you know how useless that is

I have run BR1 for 5,000 miles since the throttle body was installed. It runs like a hose and I have had NO problems! South Texas Suzuki is closed....out of business. BRP came and got all of their inventory...boats, water craft and Spyders....other manufactures came too and took their ware. With 12,000 miles, I really like BR1 however, I rode Punkin' (02 Gold Wing Motor Trike) last weekend on a long ride on the Interstate up past Kerrville, TX (where the speed limit goes to 80mph) Punkin' cruses like he was new....80+ and he really starts singing with his Cobra exhaust system. A sound to die for. (The only problem is the Red Necks think 80 means 90+)

I was a little ashamed of Punkin' when he poked BR1 about tire wear. I will need rear tire on BR1 soon....Punkin' got his new set after 40,000+ miles and could have gone another 5,000 or so but I got nervous and changed them out. He gets 25K+ on his front tire.

I would have no problem buying another Spyder but tend to keep my machines until they REALLY cause problems....or just get tired of them.

No where, Bob. Just have not gotten on for a few days. Been riding with my retired (mostly military) buddies, The Hill Country Road Riders. Many of us have been riding together over 20 years....mostly 150-200 mile day trips for breakfast or lunch and a trip to Big Bend Nat'l. Park a couple of times a year. We get along great and ride all brands. Some of us are long time riders (I had my first scooter in 1948) and some rode overseas during our military travels. We send out a monthly ride schedule via email and folks ride or not. Down here we ride 12 months a year....yeah, it gets rainy and cool sometimes, but we have our electric gear and head out.

I am glad that BR-1 and Pumpkin are getting along again and both doing their job. The Spyder and Goldwing are my favorite rides though I only have the RT right now. I am Sorry and Happy to to see that the dealer that gave you so much grief is gone. Sorry that you don't have a local dealer. Maybe another will take its place?

George,

I've been using Woods Cycle Country in New Braunfels and am pretty happy with them thusfar. You should give them a shot, I think they're the closest dealer to San Anton now that Suzuki is closed.....

Thanks. Distance wise, Kent Powersports in Selma, TX is closer to me. A friend has had good luck with them. My right headlight bulb burned out so I plan on going there for a replacement. I will have them do the 9,000-10,000 check or whatever is due...minus the spark plugs...the engine is running fine and I read that several here have not changed plugs in 25K+ miles or so.....too labor intensive. I will comment on Kent after I get work there.

FYI, I am 50 miles from Woods and 30 from Kent....later

Glad to hear that you're still spinnin' and grinnin' :D

There is no reason why I should, or Firefly, or many other spyder owners stock at our own cost our own parts... Why am I riding around with a coolant tank in my trunk? Seriously. Why do I have a growing amount of spare parts in my garage? Because I do not want to wait 3+ weeks for a basic part from BRP and it's network of dealers.

It's this kind of uncertainty which saps my confidence. I have never had a broken part or a reliability issue involving my RT since I bought it in '11. Great, I feel very fortunate compared to some owners' experiences recorded here. But that's a worry, too. How long before my RT breaks down and I become involved in what seems to be for many a never-ending saga about dealer competence and BRP's parts supply/availability situation? And this raises the obvious question: will my (RT's) luck run out on our next long trip away from home? After the hardest winter for 50 years in the UK these nagging doubts are spoiling my enjoyment of summer. :sour:

Since our dealer network is iffy at best I think we have two real powers: This forum which is our voice to BRP and other owners and a good trailer. If they can't fix your bike, pick it up and take it to someone who can.

headlight

had a headlight go out a coup0le months back and went to the local parts house bought a set of the bulbs and installed them myself dont remember the size off hand someone here prob does i picked up the 2 pack of the brightest and installed both

A little light on parts. Or the lack of them

Having a small amount of replacement parts experience between 1963 an 2001 before retiring maybe I can shed a little light on how a good system should work.
-
The average system works on a 90 day demand period which should give you a 30/60 days of stockage (DOS). That was the system that I am used to working with.

The problem is leakage of inventory levels that go undecided. Most of the times caused by sloppy book keeping of posting sales or incoming replacement stocks. Lazy inventory control personnel who are to
:cus: lazy to check stock levels on hand periodically. It was my policy when time permitted to check our shelf stock every 90/120 days even if it meant free OT. Computers were supposed to do the same thing. :cus: If everyone in the supply chain. Did their job and used the same principle 30/90 DOS every dealer could turn his inventory 4 times a year, maximize his parts investment for sales and minimize his on shelf parts dollars freeing up dollars.

Today I hear everyone in manufacturing is using a "just in time (JIT)" methodology. All the raw materials arrive within a 24 hour window. They make the demand, sell and ship within 48 hours. That only works if and when everyone has all the raw material on hand to met the demand. Hence the start of shortages at the user levels. Once that happens we the customer get the shaft big time but so does everyone in between.

Spyder's being relatively new in the supply chain are still new and breaking new items every day. BRP dealers don't know what to stock or how many. BRP does not have a good history to work from. BRP suppliers/vendors should know the failure rates of their items. But would you tell BRP that your gizmo had a failure rate of 100 units per day/week/month or year? Hell NO!

Houston, we have a situation up here, Over!

Head light bulbs. How big of a deal was it to install them? I am not much of a wrench and have a "Korean War knee" that limits my bending down (or getting up...ha ha) Anyway, I am having the 9K service done also so I guess the plastic will be off BR1....if it is like my GW, I can change the bulb...IF I can get my large hand in the small space...I have had a small handed friend do it for me a time or two. I plan on taking BR1 into the dealer tomorrow for service....I will see if I can watch them do it...and other work.

In my trouble getting parts (or my defunct dealers problem) was the dealer telling me the ECM was on backorder....after I contacted BRP and received no help, I later learned the dealer was in financial problems and HAD NOT ordered the ECM (BRP could not know this). After some telecon with BRP the ECM was ordered and shipped in two days...then it was the throttle body on backorder....again I called BRP and they said we have plenty of TB in stock. Again it was the dealer who had NOT ordered the TB. It was shipped in two days....great service once BRP knew what the problem was.....as said before, this dealer is out of business. It was (is) and nice shop and I hope someone picks up the dealership....

As BR1 was under warranty, I never figured out why the dealer did not order "free parts" to get me on the road. They did the same thing to several other Spyders....

Today, I went to Kent Powersports in Selma, TX (just outside of San Antonio) to get the 9,300 mile service and replace my main, right headlight bulb. They were professional, knowledgable, reasonably priced, ($89 an hour) fresh coffee and just a good all around experience. In and out in 2.5 hours and they let me bring my own oil! I am very pleased.
