• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

I actually replaced as many of the screws as I could with Dzus fasteners. Now I can have all of the plastic body panels removed within about 1 minute. Where I really find the savings in time with these fasteners is the removal of the underseat pan. Instead of having to remove 7 torx screws, 7 quick 1/2 turns of the dzus fasteners and the body panel comes right off. It makes replacing a blown tail light bulb on the side of the road that much quicker and easier.

Dzus fasteners

Dzus fasteners: I like that idea!!! I just looked at them on the internet and wanting a little bit more info about them.. I'm assuming that I need to give the supplier the dimentions of the screw that are currently on the bike, like the M6 X 20,,, or is it ONE SIZE FITS ALL kind of screw? I noticed that there are also rivot ones and the ones that clip on the opposite side of the screw, I again am assuming that you installed the ones that just clip on to the bike? kind of pricy but I thinks its worth in yah know? Or if I am understanding the internet you get a set of 3 for 20.00 bucks, does that sound right to you?

Thanks in advance for any info you maybe able to provide

They come in packages of 10. Basically what you end up doing is replacing the BRP threaded clip that the screws screw into with the clip for the DZUS fastener. There was some very minor modification of the body panel plastic. The BRP screw clips usually sit between two small plastic protrusions but the DZUS clips are just a bit wider so the little plastic protrusions were removed to allow the DZUS clip to sit centered within the screw hole. I have gone close to 400 km since replacing the screws with the DZUS fasteners and have not had any work loose.

The only challenging screw location was the underseat pan screw hole closest to the tail lights. The small metal half ring that goes through the head of the DZUS fastener wouldn't fit in the space that the underseat pan allowed. The solution was to just remove the metal half ring from this one DZUS fastener.

This is one of the best "convenience" mods I have done. I absolutely hated having to remove loads of screws just to remove body panels to do an oil change or change a tail light bulb.

I understand

rleathen: I understand, yep count me in, I'm gonna order them tomorrow. Thanks a bunch for the info.. These appear to be real handy, I plan on ordering 2 sets, that should be enough to do what I need to do, that will give me 20 of them.. Again, thanks brother.

Your link goes to the fasteners for fiberglass panels. There are similar fasteners for plastic panels. What is the difference?

I thought about those but chose the d-ring head instead. My reasoning was that with the d-ring head I could very quickly, without any tools, remove the body panels (i.e. on the side of the road). The button head ones will still require you to use a tool. The only real benefit gained from the button head ones is that there are less turns that you will have to do with a tool over the standard BRP screws. I really does come down to personal choice.

The D-ring fasteners make more sense and they look terrific. Think I'll go that route a bit at a time. I wonder why the ones for plastic are $4 more than the ones for fiberglass?

My apologies I copied and pasted the wrong link to the product.. The correct product to use are the ones for the OEM plastic body panels with the correct link is below:

These are the ones for the plastic body panels.

Installed the DZUS fasteners on the panel over the rear tire today. Very cool and a great time saver. Had to squeeze the clips together with a pair of channel locks so the d-ring fastener would catch and tighten. At first they would not connect and just spun in place.

Glad you like them. I think you will find that if you are one for removing the body panels on a regular basis, you know to add NMN mods or anything like that you will really come to appreciate these fasteners.

Are these the 12mm or 14mm? :dontknow:

I recall a thread a long time ago where there was some discussion as to which length was better; that is, the 14mm didn't require squeezing the clips together.

They were the 14mm for plastic panels. Sorry for the delayed response, just check this thread to send info to another Spyderlover
