• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Yesterday while at the spyder dealer in Rosendale I noticed a green artic cat ATV. I really like the color much better than BRP's green for its' RS-S. But, here's my question. That ATV I'm talkng about is not allowed on any NYS trails b/c of its width according to the owner of that dealership. What has to be done to an ATV so that it is allowed on a public highway? I'm just curious if it or any ATV can be made road legal. Since I believe you have owned ATVs previously, I thought you might know.

My son-in-law the trooper thought a windshield and some other signal lights might make it road legal. But, I don't think so.

I checked this out years ago in Michigan and there was quite the list. Windsheild, mirrors, turn signals, brake lights, road tires, insurance, seat belts and some type of inspection from the sec of state for a license plate. There may have been more.

Don't hold me to it; but, the side by side I was looking at had seat belts. And, the other thing I don't understand is, whether or not it is a side-by-side, don't they already have signal and brake lights, and mirrors?

I don't think it can be made legal. I thought emission laws prohibit any gas ATV's from becoming road legal in NYS ???

The only side by that can be road legal that ''I'' know of are Electric , Polaris has been selling them for a few years now; There only to be used on roads posted less than 40 MPH .
I have my Rhino Insured and reg. in NY, Metal tag in back, That gives me limited use on the side of roads
1/2 mile or so to get to one end of my property to the other side. [1300 ac.]

Just to add in NY ALL ATV's Have to be registerd, and if you go off of private property they also must be insured. I had 9 or 10 ATV/ATC's over the years, Still have two, And the rhino. The registering was put in so NY can collect Sales tax. ie if you bought the ATV in PA, and the dealer writes on the invoice Del to NY no sales tax is due to PA, So when there was no reg in NY no sales tax to NY .

I saw a guy who figured a way to drive his ATV on the road legally but with restrictions. He registered it as a farm vehicle and an ATV. As long as he followed the rules for farm vehicles he was all set.

Anyone on here from AZ? I've seen all kinds of vehicles driving on the highways in AZ around the SunCity properties. Like golf carts and such. Krazy!

The answers above are all correct...
Emissions, lack of certified safety equipment, Non-DOT tires... :gaah:
A "Special Commercial" plate might be the only way to get one on the roadway; subject to limitations...
That's the type of plate you might put on a backhoe or tractor to get it down the road...
