Bluetooth receiver Transmitter - Sena SM10 Alternative - Finless Bob option?

I watched the Lamonster video about installing a simple Bluetooth receiver to allow music from your phone and map directions to be played thru the F3T stereo. I started to wonder if there may be simple alternatives to do the reverse, effectively what the Sena SM10 does. I just got a Bluetooth receiver AND transmitter from Amazon today to give it a try. Cost $34[h=1]TaoTronics Bluetooth 4.1 2-in-1 Adapter[/h]
i will need to make an input cable connected to the radio (aka Finlessbob) but I think that should be pretty easy. This way I can stream my radio or anything connected to the F3T sound system to my wireless headset. If I want to go in te reverse I can do that by flipping a switch on the unit which is very tiny and I will likely install it in the glove box

Anyone ever very tried doing this or is my idea half baked?

I'm not really sure what you are trying to accomplish. "input cable connected to the radio" .... not sure what this means. Do you mean the sound system on the Spyder?

Also, I think all BT adapters are two-way (i.e. transmit and receive). How is this one different than the one Lamonster suggests?

Which Spyder do you have?

I own a F3T. An SM10 is a transmitter it connects to the audio system on the F3T and allows a Bluetooth device to access that signal like the radio. Lamonster's product review/video is a receiver. It picks up a Bluetooth signal from a phone etc and transmits it to the stereo on the F3. What I am suggesting is a device the is both a receiver AND a transmitter. It does both what Lamonster suggests and what an SM 10 does. There I would input a signal from the stereo unit to a Bluetooth headset or input a signal to the stereo from an external device like my iPhone. Does that clear up what I am hoping to do

Another Observation

I assume since you said "go the other way" you mean get the stereo into helmet? Lamonsters video gets the phone sound into the stereo.

On the RT there is an input cable already for the GPS, tied to the gas tank. Does the F3 have this? I got an extension cable from radioshack and ran it up to the XGrip to my phone. I play Pandora & use Google Maps and all comes out the speakers. The input to the radio is on the plug that is already there. The capped plug on the radio where you add a homemade cable (the one for CB) I thought was an output, used to go to the SM10; so whatever comes out the stereo is transmitted via bluetooth to your helmet(s). Could be wrong, maybe an input there also.

On a side note, I installed the factory BRP bluetooth kit with the SM10. It had a constant low buzz for some reason (engine OFF). We recently went to Cycle Gear and bought a pair of BILT helmets with the bluetooth built in ($229) and actually found that pairing them to our individual phones worked best. I hear the GPS and my 80's rock, she listens to her Heavy metal or uses the voice activation to call our daughter and chat for hours (that's what wives do!). If one of us wants to talk we tap the button, tap again and back to the music. Next time I am installing something I'm just gonna pull out the SM10 kit and sell for half price. Using the SM10 we lost the voice commands to the phone (I prob didn't understand it well though), and that constant buzz was annoying.

You can do this actually by making a cable for the output signals on the radio on RDO-2. e.g. how my cable works.

BUT realize this and this is the benefit of the SM-10.
Most BT transmitters can pair with only one device at a time.
Thus if you have a passenger only one BT headset can pair to the transmitter and only one of you can hear it.
The SM-10 allows 2 headsets to pair and work simultaneously.

thanks Bob glad you responded. In fact the TaoTronics Bluetooth 4.1 2-in-1 Adapter can pair two devices so I could pair two headsets. Having said that my lovely bride of 30 years does not like to ride much so not a huge issue for me :opps: I need to find a source for the molex connects to build a cable to reach to the front glove box where I will mount the unit. I will need to switch between cables into the unit depending on if I want to transmit from the stereo to a connected Bluetooth device or have the bike receive a signal from a Bluetooth device like my phone. I think this will work but need to find the time and supplies to build the cable
