• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Bluetooth doesn't work with XM Radio???

Since I was bringing my RT in to Motoplex for service, I figured that I'd have the bluetooth dongle installed.

When I picked it up, I discovered that the XM Radio was no longer connected. Motoplex told me that the XM had to be disconnected to install the bluetooth.

I knew that you had to disconnect the CB radio (if installled) if you want to use Bluetooth, but I have found nothing that said you had to disconnect the XM as well. And I can't find anything on Can-Am's website to indicate this.

Everything I can find says that the dongle is supposed to work with the AM/FM/WX, iPod, and XM. Did someone at Motoplex screw up, or can you really not use the bluetooth with XM??

I was about to send you that same document. I got it from BRP when my dealer was trying to tell me that the GPS wouldn't play through the radio system on a RT-LTD. When I called the Service Manager and gave him the bulletin number from the document they changed their tune and fixed the problem. In my case a cable wasn't connected on the right rear side of the bike.

Hopefully it's something that simple. I called BRP today and while they're supposed to get back to me with confirmation, the support person said they didn't see any reason why it wouldn't work and no reason why the XM system should have been disconnected.

I called four of the other local Can-Am dealers. All of them confirmed that the Bluetooth dongle shouldn't need the XM radio connected to work. Also called BRP.

I sent the above bulletin to the dealership that did the install. Hopefully this gets solved soon.

So heard back from the dealer last night.

They're supposed to call BRP in the morning. Seems they can't figure out how to connect the Bluetooth without having to disconnect the XM radio, so they want to ask the mothership for help.

This is rapidly getting to the point that I'm wondering if I should continue to use them for ANY repairs or maintenance, pre-paid maintenance and warrantee be damned.

The CB and XM radio hook to the entertainment harness which plugs into SD02 plug on the radio. The BT dongle cable uses this plug as well. So you cannot have both! There is a document I found a while back explaining this. In fact the BT dongle install instructions specifically list unplugging the entertainment harness if it is there!

As you see for XM radio you need the entertainment harness:
For Satellite Radio
install
Radio Module Kit 219400464
Satellite Radio Kit 219400445
Entertainment Harness Kit 219400439

I know that BRP sheet lists using both but in the end, it is incorrect based on what I know about the entertainment harness. I could be wrong though having never seen the entertainment harness!

Now to be honest, I bet you that you can add the pins to the entertainment harness to add the BT dongle cable! I have been suggesting this for a while now. If I had the entertainment harness in hand I could figure it out. The BT dongle uses audio output pins on the radios SD02 plug. The XM radio would be input to the main radio SD02 not output so I am pretty sure you could mod the cable to add the BT Sena SM10. My bet though is the CB needs those outputs the BT dongle uses so possibly you cant have CB and BT but for sure the XM radio should.

If someone wants to send me the harness I can look at how to do it or even wire it for you and test it on my bike. Then I would send you back the cable. I will just say this, installing the entertainment harness is not a easy job so I hear.

Actually a little correction based on another thread going on.

The BT dongle instructions show 2 ways to hook up.
One is directly to the radio SD02 and this means unplugging the entertainment harness. The other is using the Multi-function harness. I do not know what that is nor ever found a part number for it!!!

See these instructions:

https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BypE-f7-2XuTc0lPOE1BU2N3eGM/edit?pli=1

So it looks like XM radio and BT will work ONLY if you have the multi-function harness but again I have never seen that listed in the catalog or any part of the other kits.

My dealer talked with BRP, BRP told me the thread on the BRP "Community" for dealers to point them to. RT is back in their hands, problem should be fixed soon.

One note, it looks like the SM10 dongle was "bricked" to begin with, as it would do nothing save show a single red light. Sena had me try to connect it to the device manager software, and it wouldn't recognize. (note to BMP, would it really hurt you to include the proper USB cable with that dongle??). So that's going to be replaced as well.

Based on some learning yesterday, the bottom line to have XM and BT they must install the entertainment harness otherwise they will have to unplug the XM radio like before.

As a follow up, between the information that BRP provided and I provided, my RT went back in on tuesday. I got it back today, XM and Bluetooth work just fine together. :)

:clap: Good they got it working for you. It's a shame that the dealer was not able to figure it out and you had ask BRP for assistance. Granted the installation instructions could have been better. But if they had reread the dongle installation instructions it is clear there are two ways to connect it.
