There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. Bluetooth basics

I see no reason to spend the money to pair with bike radio. I use Galaxy 5 phone as a MP3 player with my own music and pair with my helmet and wife's helmet. We can still talk to each other and hear music. I have a Sena-10 and am thinking of upgrading to Sena-20 or maybe something else.

The benefit of having the SM10 is it integrates with the bike and thus anything that would come out of the radio you hear in your BT headset.
And you say so what right? I don't listen to the radio I listen to my phone playing music.
OK well to do that well you have to mount your phone on the dash somewhere if you want full control like seeing playlists, albums, artists, etc... That’s fine.

Well understand that if you have a iPhone or an iPod, if you hook that to the jack in the trunk, now all that capability to be able to select songs, playlists, albums, etc now show up on the dash and plays out the radio speakers. Well if you ALSO have the SM10 then you get that now in your headsets.

So here is the best setup in my opinion because I have nothing mounted on my dash and have many options!
I have a iPhone 6+
Wife has a iPhone 6.
I have a iPod touch 4th gen hooked to the jack in the trunk with all my music on it. It is dedicated to the Spyder.
I have a Sena SM10 hooked to the radio via dongle cable.

1) I pair my phone to my helmet. The phone is just in the trunk and not hooked to the MP3 jack. Now I can make calls and IF I WANT can tell the phone to play music. But it's basic at playing music as I can only adjust volume and skip songs using the knob on the headset. I can tell SIRI to play specific songs or albums but if you have a large selection, remembering names etc of a huge list of songs is not great. SIRI doesn’t always get it right either.
My Wife also has a phone and it is paired to her helmet. She can listen to music on her phone if she likes.
With this, the wife cannot hear the music coming from my phone! I cannot hear her music from her phone.
(The 20S headsets solve this as they can "share music" but if you don’t have the 20s you cannot share).

2) I bought a cheap iPod touch 4th gen. This is permanently mounted in my trunk to the MP3 jack. The spyder charges it and now I have my full selections of music on my dash screen! This is the benefit! When I play music from here, I can hear it out the speakers OR turn the SM10 on and can hear it in my helmet and my Wife can hear it in her helmet. The SM10 supports 2 helmets! With just a phone BT to a helmet, only I can hear the music. The wife cannot because you cannot double pair.

3) Now forgetting the phones or iPods, it I play the radio both the wife and I can hear it in our helmets... OH AND on the RT the passenger has buttons on the right handgrip. With those my Wife can change the radios channel from the presets or if the iPod is playing can skip songs etc. Again this is the benefit of the iPod and SM10.

So for about $110 and adding a SM10, I and my wife have many choices.

I won’t go into GPS options as there are many there too.....

One more add.....

Since the iPod touch is permanetly in the trunk with WIFI on, when I pull into the garage hop on my PC and fire up iTunes, I can manage and update my music on the iPod touch without ever removing it from the Spyder!

:)

I also use the set up Finless stated

The option of placing a XM radio in the trunk instead of the iPod/iPhone is available. I have recently installed this option. Although channel changing thru the radio stack is not available, running a 10ft wire to the trunk and installing the head on the dash works well. However, in reality I do not change channels so keeping it in the trunk and out of the weather is excellent.

Newbie here... If we ride two up do I need to buy 2 Sena 20s units so we can communicate on the road? The only dumb question is the one not asked...

Thanks!

You don't have to both have 20S units but you do both have to have a BT unit on each helmet.
You could for instance buy one 20S for the driver and some cheaper say SMH5 for the passenger. This will work fine and save a little money. The beauty of having at least one 20S is you can share your music to another helmet. So if you as the driver have a 20S and the wife has a cheaper headset, you can share your music with her.

By the way, since I just recently upgraded to the 20S sets, I will be selling my dual pack SMH5-FM units. When I get some time I will post a for sale ad.

Finless please point out where it says in either the manual for SMH10 or the 20S, that the second phone pairing procedure, which is not the same as the phone pairing procedure, makes a connection in A2DP.

For reference the following is copied from the 20S manual. The instructions are the same in the SMH10 manual except "Second Mobile Phone Pairing" is called "Multiport Pairing".

5.2 Second Mobile phone PairingTypical Bluetooth headsets can connect with only one HFP (HandsFreeProfile) device, but a second mobile phone pairing allows theheadset to connect with two HFP devices at the same time. So, whenyou already have a mobile phone connected with the 20S, you canalso pair and connect a second mobile phone or other HFP devicessuch as Sena SR10, Bluetooth adapter.
1. To pair the second mobile phone, press the Jog Dial for 6 secondsuntil the red LED is rapidly flashing and you hear multiple beeps.
2. Within 2 seconds, tap the Phone Button again, then the LED turnsto blue flashing and the beeps turn to high tone double beeps. You will hear a voice prompt saying “Second mobile phonepairing”.
3. Search for Bluetooth devices on your mobile phone. Select theSena 20S in the list of the devices detected on the mobile phone.
4. Enter 0000 for the PIN. Some mobile phones may not ask for thePIN.
5. The mobile phone confirms that pairing has completed and the20S is ready to use. You will hear a voice prompt from the 20Ssaying “Your headset is paired”.

Thanks Finless, I am still awaiting my F3S delivery, but sure the spousal unit will want to chat while ryding.

We use the Sena SMH-10R headsets. I have intercomm to both my wife's sena and sometimes others headsets, the SM-10 bluetooth music transmitter from the bike and my cell phone.

Headset will automatically link to the phone and SM-10 when I turn it on. Links to my wifes headset when I press the center button and opens the comms channel. Press it again to close the comms channel and return to what I was listening to.

If the phone rings, it will ring in my helmet. If I want to answer I hit the center button or say 'answer call'. When call ends, headset returns to what I was listening to.

Intercom interrupts media player.

Phone interrupts intercom or media player to ring, takes call only if I do as above. Or if I place a call. There is a way of doing this via voice command but I never bothered to learn. I only place calls while standing still.

SM-10 must be linked as 'media selective pairing'

There is the possibility of a second phone pairing as well, 'phone selective pairing'

Never figured out a way to have the intercom in on the phone call in a 3 way. Its one or the other.

OK you might be right as it is not clear. In only mentions HFP but since they are calling it a "second phone" I assumed it paired like the first phone HFP+A2DP even though the proceddure is not the same. It does not clearly say either.

But forgetting that I still stand to this.
You pair a phone HFP+A2DP
You pair the SM10 as a phone using the same phone pairing procedure. Since the SM10 is not a phone it doesnt use HFP. It is a music device which must be pairing as A2DP. So that is 2 A2DP slots.

The GPS pairs as HFP not A2DP unless you want it that way. If you pair the GPS as a phone (HFP+A2DP) then you loose either the phone or the SM10 as a A2DP device. I agree with that. So just pair the GPS like it says, as a HFP profile.

So in the end the guy can do this like Case #6 Says

Phone as A2DP+HFP
SM10 as A2DP
GPS as HFP

Since I have this same setup but have not played with my 20S and my GPS yet I will confirm this.

Bob

what about this set up?

In my 20S manual it has case study 6. This is what you want. I am sure its in the SMH10 manual as well.

where in this set up would you pair a sena prism camera? also since I have my phone paird with the zumo, and the headset, should I unpair one of them?

I don't have a Sena Prism camera but if it is at all like the Sena backpack for the GoPro, then it has to be paired as a HFP device and thus burns one of your phone HFP profiles.

Here is what I have paired today.
iPhone 6
Sena SM10
Sena backpack for the GoPro
Wife's helmet.

I am going to test pairing with my GPS when I get the time and see what I loose. I have a feeling I will have to do a selective pairing to the GPS to not loose the camera or the phone.

Does that help?
