• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Better gas mileage

In prep for Spyderfest, this week I changed my oil using Amsoil. I have filled up three times since the change and I have consistently recorded over 31 mpg. BRG oil gave me 28.5 mpg. the last tank was a VERY spirited 200 mile ride thru the western Oregon coast range chasing my son and his friends on their Triumph Street Triples. Great ride!

Well..!!

Have heard lots of good things about amsoil. We have sponsors here that also sell this oil so have to assume it to be equal to any brp has. Manual only specifies minimum specs for these engines..:dontknow:

April Fools day isn't till tomorrow !!!!! :roflblack::roflblack:

I'm finding it hard to believe the brand of oil will increase MPG....... Nice try though.

I'll bet the Tooth Fairy never left anything under your pillow and now you're jaded!

It's invertible that when you do something new to your Machine and start checking the mileage, You become conscious of the way you drive and your mileage will in prove, But if you drive unconscious like me your mileage will in the long run stay with in a 2/3 mpg range, No matter what you change. There are no miracles in extra gas mileage it is what it is, Regardless of what JC Whitney says. :roflblack:

Sorry..... I didn't mean to come across insensitive.:opps:

It was ment to inform the OP and others that the brand of oil does not change your MPG with a slight humor twist .

I am a newbie when it comes to a Spyder. But after reading this forum, I have been able to increase my gas mileage by:
  • Keeping the RMP's up per the recommendations found on this site
  • Keeping the speed between 55 and 60
  • No jack rabbit starts and panic stops

I have been able to squeeze out 34 mpg. Before I instituted the "words of wisdom" found on this site, I was getting 25-27 mpg. Time will tell if I am able to maintain that level of mpg.

gas mileage

I have had as little as 25 mpg but went to Louisville yesterday from Bowling Green KY . It is about 120 miles one way. I tried to keep the rpm's at 5000 and my speed was 65-68 miles per hour. I got 31 mpg thats the best i have gotten. I usually do about 75 to 80 miles per hour and get between 25 and 28.

Well, If the oil isn't going to help; how about aerodynamics? Has anybody done any aero-testing? If somebody has a 2010 RT with that 27" barn door windshield; perhaps some careful monitoring would indicate something here if a newer 25" or even the 23" cut the frontal section down enough to effect an improvement... And then there's those new adjustable lower air deflectors; setting them up for minimal wind resistance might be worth a tad more... :dontknow: But then what? Do we cut those air deflectors off of the A-arm covers up front?

My doctor told me to lose 25 lbs and I would get better mileage. It is true but I'm afraid I'd be blown off the bike.:roflblack:

About 7#s of weight loss equals one HP so since I lost 21#'s and I am 5'4" my bike has gained 3 HP and is more aerodynamic than most!
Right, it still gets 28 mpg

YOU! Arntufun insensitive!??? Never! Just poking a little fun (was that a Pun?).

ARE you guys poking fun at me?? I am sure it may be a fluke but my phone app has tracked my mileage since new. It is true that the last three tankfuls have been better with no change in riding. Tru the last tank was a very spirited ride so keeping the rpms up for a lot of the twisty rid in certainly may have helped.

Just saying!
