Best solution for leg heat problem on RT

My wife has a new 2013 RT with the heat problem on her right leg and foot. No surprise there. She 'asked':yikes: that I find the best solution. I have searched the archives and found many references to fixes but no one has come out and said, "this fix worked". I called the factory and asked if they recommend any solution and the answer was NO. Is there anyone that can give me some first hand experience as to what fix worked for them. Be confident that I will be forever grateful .

Good question. The pre-13's were/are relatively easy to fix by removing the splash pan, enlarging the remaining plastic, and blocking up the two exit holes by your right food. I looked at a '13 on shop floor and it has a totally different inner pan, contoured to flow the air out the two holes. I don't know whats underneath that portion but if its only a splash pan, I would think it could be removed and that inner pan cut to allow the air to flow out and under. Just a thought.

here is what i am doing, today i put the highway pegs on my rt. i also installed the upper vent blocking plate and removed the two bottom plates under the bike, than i did a search on here for heat fixes and found http://www.spyderlovers.com/forums/...ods-For-Heat-Correction!&highlight=heat+fix's post # 16 and what i did today was order the spyderpops bottom block off plate than i ordered a 90 degree chrome adjustable exhaust http://www.ebay.com/itm/19089595020...iewitem=&sspagename=ADME:L:OC:US:3160&vxp=mtr that i will bolt to the block off plate and i hope it does the trick for me

Ya know, with respect to BRP, I don't get it.
They KNOW there is a heat issue on the right side (among places), they KNOW that there are a number of decent aftermarket fixes for the problem.
They KNOW every owner complains about it and for the most part, can't stand it.
WHY DON'T THEY FIX IT !!!!
They could come up with some directional vents or different air flow or even just show an effort by say wrapping the pipes under the seat with heat wrap.
Just had to share my 2 cents. :banghead:

1. Dress for the ride with full length pants (not shorts) and shoes suitable for motorcycling.
2. Baker Air Wings will provide some relief by directing cooler air onto the legs and upper body.
3. Spyder Pops (designed for the '13) will block one hot air outlet but there needs to be some other outlet opened up by drilling bottom panels or removal (not as easy on the '13 as on the '10-12's).
4. Some brands of floor boards have the leading edge flipped up so that the air coming out of the bottom outlet is deflected downward.

After owning four RT's some things that have not worked for us are.....

1. Vertika ram air vents
2. Avon rubberized heat deflector
3. The Fan can.

These are just our experiences and others may have different ones. Remember, you are sitting on a heat generating device that throws off heat just like Harleys, Hondas, Victorys and others. You have to expect some hot air. (There is a little of that on SpyderLovers but not much.)

I understand your frutstration; but you must not understand corporations...
It is impossible for a business of any decent size to actually accomplish anything in what a normal human would call "A reasonable length of Time..." :shocked:
Endless meetings with engineers, lawyers, the build teams,. lawyers, test pilots, lawyers, focus groupls, lawyers, marketing gurus, lawyers...
Well... I'm sure that you get it. :gaah:
A half a dozen backyard engineers could fix it in a couple of hours and a couple of six-packs... and then go watch the game!

Mostly, vehicle manufacturers TEST their products way in advance of launch so that customers find they have bought something that has miles of running in its pedigree and is fit for purpose from the get-go. The list of things that could be done better on the Spyder grows ever longer where logically with each passing year you'd expect more product refinement and a better Spyder in the showroom. It would seem that you are right, Spyder customers KNOW what needs fixing. BRP either don't know or they don't care. IMHO it's one or the other. :sour:

Agreed with Double Trouble! I have been much warmer on my Harley than on the '11 RT. I am 99% on it with long pants and my wife (primary RT driver) always has her chaps on. Have not been in the deep South, but Texas, OK, Kansas and 100 degree temps are no stranger--- just have to keep hydrated, and take breaks on trips. Hottest this year was an hour stuck in construction traffic on 1-25 about a month ago. Whew--- was glad for a shower (rain) later that afternoon!

I too have been studying this issue since I purchased my 2013 last December. The above appears, to me, to be the best solution. I'm still a bit confused about the remooval of the two bottom plates. Can that be accomplished on the 2013? In addtion to what is suggested above, I have changed the coolant ratio to 25% coolant to 75% distilled water. I've started with the coolant at least for right now, and will report back in about a week or two after testing.

i started with the upper blocking plate and i asked lamont about removing the bottom plates and he suggested that with the upper plate install i should remove them. they come out pretty easy, they are held on by two plastic push pins and one bolt. so when i was under there i took them off figuring i could always re install them. just put the plastic push pins back in the frame holes so you don't have open holes in the frame for water to get back in it.

Take a look at baker wings. Have them on my 2011 and helped quite a bit. Have full set.

We have the Baker Wings on the 2011 RT; not sure how well the ones on the '13s compare but must be working for BRP to have designed them into the new ones.

Wow, you must have been on I25 the same day I was. I also got caught for two hours in Denver and Colorado Springs in that horrible construction traffic as I was coming back home from Casper, WY. My Spyder thermometer said 102. I finally got through CoS and hit a nice rain shower, it felt so good. (BTW - I live in Westcliffe).

Personally, I know its gonna get warm. I deal with it and my Harley (when I had it) was a lot warmer.
I have SpyderPops block off plates (upper & lower) and got Baker air wings last Spyderfest. Both make the heat
very tolerable but I still say that BRP should be addressing this issue. It's not a 1 out of 10 bikes have this problem,
it's every bike.
Also for anyone interested, The Baker air wings are one of the best mods I have done !!
