• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. I have about 40 more days to sign up for the Best warrenty on my 2011 RTS SM5 without having to pay the $75/yr surcharge. Looking at it, it seems there are a lot of exclusions but I believe the Engine and main running gear would be covered as well as the VSS, DPS and main computer moduals. It's $800 to get 3 years after the basic 2 years. Seems to be worth it in this age of rediculus costs but I don't like still having to pay a $50 deducable per "covered" repair per occurance per component failure on top of the $800 - 3 year fee. Afraid to go without it with all the electonic's on this machine. It would include road side assistance but I already have that through my insurance for next to nothing. Didn't even get a price on "super best" dealer said he has never written a super best and thought it was way too expensive.

What experiance does everyone have with best - good or bad.:dontknow:

Thanks

Like you, I agonized over buying the BEST warranty, but decided to purchase it at Spyderfest. There's so much that could go wrong with the Spyder so I'm going for some piece of mind. I still have a year on my original warranty and my RT has been in the shop too many times...and is returning Monday for recurring problems. Generally I don't like extended warranties, but I bought one for my first Harley in '95 because of HD's rep. Never had to use it.

Don't buy a Western Services extended warranty if that is on your radar. You will not be happy with it.

I just had an engine gasket/seal replaced after my 2yr warranty expired and covered under the BEST. The dealer service person said there would be that $50 charge that you mentioned; but, they didn't charge me.:dontknow:

I guess that could be because I had them install KewlMetal's highway bracket and pegs and asked what kind of deal I could get.

No problems so far with Western Service Contract...

I went with the 4-year Western Service Contract (WSC) extended warranty for a few reasons: they cover more and cost less than BEST, it's easier for the dealer to get paid and there's no $50 deductible. In the last few months I've had the following taken care of with no issues from WSC for either me or my dealer:

  • Rear fender brackets
  • Transmission Control Unit
  • Oil pressure switch
  • The Blipper module
My WSC extended warranty has already paid for itself.

BEST experience

Used my BEST roadside assistance when my o-ring blew...they were WONDERFUL to deal with...Johnny on the spot..follow up...super service...glad I bought when I got my RT...

Is it accepted at all BRP dealerships?

Well I am sitting here with a $2250 bill I had to pay because they would not cover the sprocket and drive shaft when when it went out at 19,000 miles. Said it was normal wear and tear, so if you have some contact w/Western Service that can get claims paid, I would like to send you the paperwork.
I also was charged $1700 for Western Service.

Good luck with that...

BEST is tried and true...I would go with the factory warranty on any vehicle, especially the Spyder...less of a headache going forward. For what you are paying for peace of mind, there is no reason to skimp here.

Western Service Contract Follow-up...

Question: Is it - Western Service Contract (WSC), accepted at all BRP dealerships?

They would be crazy not to. WSC pays the Dealer's full labor rate (BRP/BEST only pays the BRP defined flat rate). WSC pays retail for parts (BRP/BEST does not).

Bottom line: WSC is a much better deal for the Dealers. For us, that translates into Dealers that are happy to do warranty work, as they won't be loosing any money to perform the service required; and we don't have to pay a ($50) deductible.

JIMCROM, there must be more to the story. The crankshaft/spline (driveshaft) is hardened steel and should not be damaged by the softer metal of the STOCK sprocket. Sprockets do wear and are usually not covered under extended warranties, but the spline is not normal wear. If the spline wears out you have to replace the crankshaft, but $2250 sounds like a lot to do that job.
