There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. BEST BBQ IN TEXAS? Coopers BBQ in Llano.

Coopers is so much better than any other Texas BBQ, there is NO comparison. There are Coopers in Llano, Junction, New Braunfels, Mason but the one in Llano is by far the best. Their blackberry cobbler is also best in Texas.

Best steak dinner? Fernando's in Castroville on Hwy 90 across from the US Post Office BY FAR. The 16 oz. T-bone special is about $10 and includes baked potato, salad, Texas toast and the beef is hand cut and prime. Best of all, it is cooked over mesquite. Fernando's may also have some of the best tacos and puffy tacos in the state.

Best breakfast? Depends on what you are craving. Breakfast tacos? Best I have found are in Bandera at El Jacalitos which is a Tex-Mex place right off the main drag. Gringo breakfast maybe the Coffee Cup in Hico especially if you like to was a huge breakfast down with some pie. The very very best breakfast place is a Waffle House and we have NONE within 100 miles of where I live. Waffle House is kinda like heaven with dirty bathrooms. Smothered taters and greasy bacon! Yum.

Chicken Fried Steak? Bill and Rosa's KK Steakhouse in D'Hanis, on Hwy 90 west of Hondo. I double dog dare you to get a full order. It comes out on a Turkey platter. I doubt many can finish off a half order and folks who ride know that a to-go box is generally not all that helpful. Ronny Mason, one of Texas best singers entertains on the weekends. Google Ronny Mason and see if you can find some samples of his singing... he is good.

Tex-Mex, Well, right around the corner from where I live (about 6 miles) is La Cabana Mexican Restaurant in Lakehills (on FM1283). I haven't had any better Tex-Mex so I guess I will have to nominate them. If you decide you want to take a look at Medina Lake, stop by and try some good food at a small price!

Italian food is hard to rate... about a 1/3 of the Italian restaurants I have eaten in could be my favorite. A good marinara sauce, some fresh spinach and some fresh mushrooms and I am a happy camper.... in other words, I am NOT a gourmet. About the best Italian I have ever had though is in Bandera Texas (Cowboy Capital of the World) at Pap's Italian Grill on Hwy 16 on the south side of town. Wonderful Italian with huge portions.

This is a great thread, but over time it will be impossible for our members to find a particular city or state.

Therefore, I have started a spreadsheet to list restaurants by city and state. It has room for an address, phone number, speciality of the house, and price range estimate shown by the usual $-$$$$. I can add more fields as needed, but this way there will be some organization.

If if this interests the members, I am willing to try and keep it up to date.

What will help me?

- send me PMs with the same information you post here. I will miss posts if you only leave the info here

- add an address and phone number if you can. I don't have time to Google search all these locations. Also, help other members with a guess of the prices using the $-$$$$ scale. A McD hamburger is a $, a meal at a Chipoltle or a Chinese Buffet might be $$, and so forth.

- for restaurants with multiple locations, list your local or favorite spot, then note the additional cities or states where they can be found. I can add a comment with that info

- you can always send a message to update any info for places I already have on the list, or to alert me to typos.

The original post deserves the credit for this idea. I'm just trying to make it a bit easier. Keep on posting suggestions, and let me know if this will be useful.

Here is the link to the spreadsheet:

this will be updated as members post suggestions, so check back or copy the link to your computer or tablet.

One more comment about the list, then I will go back to lurking.

I am not going to add any national restaurant chains to the list, UNLESS the member posts something unique about a particular location (a special food or perhaps a unique location).

My preference is to list local restaurants that provide food and service which keeps them alive amidst all the fast food out there.

We hit Cooper's in Llano on April 20th on the "Trek to Tucson" . . . and they, also, give a military discount! Great food . . . and those gallon jars on all the tables are full of whole pickled jalapeño peppers!
