• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Benefits of a Spyder

After riding my FZ-09 yesterday, I was reminded of the benefits of a Spyder:

You don't have to worry about the quality of the road
Debris isn't as much of an issue
Hill at a red light or stop sign? Who cares?!?
You have storage, a radio, heated grips, and cruise control
Highway? Okay.
Windy? Okay again.
You don't have to worry if the road is cantered
No clutch, brake fatigue at a long light
You are more visible
You aren't as on edge as while on two wheels
Two up riding is comfortable
Hey, I took it food shopping!

That said- nothing beats the FZ-09 or a supersport for the sheer thrill of riding. I had more fun on the FZ-09, and I love two wheels, but the Spyder is excellent for it's own reasons and I would take it on any longer trips or for highway rides.

What have been your pros and cons after riding two wheels?
 
I always loved to bank a "leaner" over into a long, sweeping curve...

...or drag the 'Boards on my 'Wing! :D
(Used to throw some pretty good sparks with it...)

The Spyder is just a much more relaxing ride now... :thumbup:
I don't feel the need to prove anything to anybody; it's just me and the bike.
 
My Buell carves the corners like nothing else I have ridden but wife won't ride on the back of it so....

Spyder pros:
- comfortable 2 up.
- more visible.
- more stable on interstate, especially in the wind.
- can park just about anywhere, including the sand here in FL (most of my yard is sand).
- frunk is more useful than I expected (1x full helmet, 2x jackets, 2x gloves, sunblock, comm units, and 2x boots).
- no clutch cramp in traffic.

Spyder cons:
- exhaust/radiator heat on feet/legs.
- quirky SE trans.
- mileage.
- little more work to ride/corner hard.

Very few people know anything about my Buell but lots of people ask about the Spyder.
 
Depends....

On what you ryde and how. From the views so far your talking about the semi automatic which does make the differences differ. A well set up manual with a tuned suspension can keep up with the best of them. Will admit the sport bikes are more of a challenge I think because they lack the knowledge of how fast and how worng things can go in a heartbeat...( have lost many friends to this belief) Only wish I had gotten on a spyder sooner in life cause its time on the open road on these spirited machines lost . I do have a few good years left and will make the most of them....:thumbup:
 
Thanks Jenfz09 for the reminder. I love 2 wheels too but my last 2 bikes were 900+ pound top heavy beasts. Great road/touring bikes which is what we like to do but I always feared parking lots, gas stations and sandy intersections. I'm not a big person but with my wife (also not a big person) and loaded for road trips these things were always a concern and now it isn't a problem.

I think overall for us the biggest PRO has simply been stability all around, whether it's moving or sitting still, the stability adds much more confidence, and confidence creates a much more relaxed and enjoyable ride. Road conditions and hazards and obstacles...etc.. have become a lesser concern on the Spyder. The biggest CON I have personally experienced, is doing my own maintenance. All the panels are a pain to remove and replace the way it's designed. I like the plastic looks, I just hate the idea of removing a bunch of stuff just to check something or change something that SHOULD be easy. There's just no reason to have to remove panels to change oil or change a battery, or clutch fluid...etc...(many other examples). I'd ,much rather have to remove 20 screws to remove one large panel, than 5 separate ones in a particular sequence. But the overall enjoyment certainly trumps the pitfalls of the Spyder.
 
Each has its place. I love my sportbikes in the canyons, my cafe racer around town, dual sports off the beaten path, and the Spyder for two-upping and hauling luggage for a weekend getaway. Which one should I take today.. #firstworldproblems.

Advantage of Spyder

It gives you a place to throw your money correcting the piss poor engineering of Can Am. No ground clearance weak sway bar too small shocks Etc Etc Etc.
 
Having had 2 hip replacements and 2 knees that need replacing, balancing 2 wheels became a real concern. The Spyder has removed that concern and allowed me to be in the wind and not having to worry about dropping my bike. It is plenty fast and lots of fun to ride, I love it!!!!!!!!!!!:yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes::yes:
 
I am in much agreement with everything except "Road Quality".
That long, mostly open drive belt has been known to catch pea gravel and then press it into the belt and the sprockets resulting in some fairly serious damage.
True, there are "missing belt guards" and I have one, but I still avoid newly chipped and dirt roads like an atheist avoids Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show.
 
Pros- the wife will ride with me and enjoys it, so when I say it's time for a new one she says find a good deal and go ahead

cons- paying for the great deal
 
Add to list of pros: Where ever I go ( doing errands or riding) people ask questions about the spyder,

comfortable seat,
add farkles,
meet other spyder owners,
storage compartments,
has reverse,
no kick stand,
you get waves, and Thumbs up when on the road,
low maintance,
Automatic shifting( Semi-Automatic),
When life is chaos, I can get on my spyder and ride
I can drive by a gas station with out having to fill up as often
No matter where I go people are looking @ the spyder
Going to Spyder Events, and meeting Current /new spyder owners,
Feeling the air on your face, arms
Freedom on the road, sometimes letting life go by.

Friends for life!

The :f_spider: RT makes me feel a lot more safer and comfortable when i'm riding. I know danger is still there between me and the cages, but that peace of mind feels better. Also the look of the Spyder gets a lot of attention. :ohyea::ohyea::ohyea:

That's exactly what I was doing when I felt the most vulnerable ever on my Goldwing. I was on I-15/80 south of Salt Lake 3 years ago going about 80+ mph on a long sweeping curve when I realized that if ANYTHING went wrong, I was a GONER!

The Spyder is just a much more relaxing ride now... :thumbup:

:agree: I tell folks that I feel safer at 80 mph on my Spyder than I ever did at 70 on my Goldwing. The Spyder has re-instilled the joy of riding for me.
