• There were many reasons for the change of the site software, the biggest was security. The age of the old software also meant no server updates for certain programs. There are many benefits to the new software, one of the biggest is the mobile functionality. Ill fix up some stuff in the coming days, we'll also try to get some of the old addons back or the data imported back into the site like the garage. To create a thread or to reply with a post is basically the same as it was in the prior software. The default style of the site is light colored, but i temporarily added a darker colored style, to change you can find a link at the bottom of the site.

Can anyone give me advice for my belt ? I have a stone in mine hoping it will get me to Spyderfest and back home.Not sure how long it will last.Does anyone know what the price for a replacement belt will be ? What could happen if my belt snaps while I am driving ? Thankyou for any advice you can give me.Boots {Deb}

Boots, it would help if you could post a pic of your belt. New belts are around $300; or you can order one and save a few $$$. I've used this dealer with good success and see that he has them for $277 shipping incl. http://partsfinder.onlinemicrofiche...Bike-Spyder-RT-S-Roadster-SE5-Auto-Tramission

If the belt broke on the road, I think most of us would be hard pressed to deal with it. You'd need to loosen the rear axle bolts and that takes large tools that are not in the tool kit. The belt would have to be aligned on the sprocket and I think the rear wheel would have to be jacked up to do that. If theres no Can Am dealers around, and you have a spare belt, I think any Harley dealer, or good Bike shop, could easlily install the belt sufficiently to get you to a Can Am dealer to have the tension adjusted. You'd have to have it hauled to the shop.

I think most of us would advise you to have a dealer check the belt and if needed, replace it before your trip.

As I stated in your other post, on stone in belt. Get the stone out, to prevent more damage. Where is the stone, is it in the middle, has it gone through the belt. Post a pic if you can. I went 50k miles after I punched a hole in a belt on a harley, but it was in the middle. If you have a stone in/or near the middle and the edges are intact it should ok for a while. But the important thing is remove the stone NOW.

Going cross country, mine got stones stuck in it in middle of nowhere in Idaho and broke. AAA towed it 180 miles to nearest Can-Am dealer, $60 to overnight belt, $300 for the belt, $125 to install belt, two extra nights in motel room, before I was on the road again. Part of the adventure, but I'd have it checked before I went anywhere, just my thoughts. Also, Idaho is beautiful.

I had a3/8 in stone in the middle of ours removed it and very next ride let clutch out in driveway nothing look down belt is on the ground no way I would take off across states with the old one I now carry a spare tied to the frame under the plastic if I were you I would replace and carry the old one for a spare

EBay had a vendor with some belts at a pretty deep discount...
I'll have to dig around and see if I can find a link to them.

I have replaced two belts due to stones caught in them. One caused a partial tear in the belt and one broke the belt in half.

Cost for the belt and installation is about $350.00. If you need to pay for a tow, that's extra.

As other have suggested, I would replace the belt before it breaks and does other damage.

I am just wondering how long a belt will last? I don't have a stone or anything in mine but I was under the impression that the belts nowdays are tuff as nails.

Lots of advise..!!

After reading down the line looks like the best and safest is to change it. This is my first belt drive bike and I don't have much I can add but the best have chimed in...change it and feel at ease on the long rydes...:gaah:

I believe that 40,000 miles plus is the "guesstimated" life on these belts. The most miles I have put on a belt was 23,500 miles and then I traded off the bike at that point. The two bikes I replaced belts on (due to stones) were both replaced at under 15,000 miles. I currently have 15,000 miles on the replaced belt machine I am driving.

I am guessing there are those out there with the higher mileage that will chime in and give us a better answer.
